Derrick Allen McPherson

Derrick Allen McPherson, 56, of Plainview, passed away on June 3, 2022. Memorial services will be held at Bartley Funeral Home on Friday at 2p.m.

Derrick was born in Plainview, Texas on November 26, 1965 to Joann Hurt and John D. McPherson Sr. A 6th generation Texan. He attended Plainview Independent School District from kindergarten to grade school. He graduated from Temple High School and went on to attend Temple Junior College. Derrick had aspirations of serving his country but due to health risks he decided to make his profession serving and protecting the Plainview community. Derrick started his Law Enforcement Career as a dispatcher in 1994 working his way up the ranks to Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Department Training Lieutenant, Swat Team Commander, Training Coordinator, Emergency Management Coordinator, and Patrol Captain. He dedicated his life by proudly serving the City of Plainview.

Derrick enjoyed motorcycles, long range shooting, cooking and anything outdoors. He had a wonderful sense of humor that was all his own. He loved to learn about numerous topics and was always watching a different documentary. Above everything, his real love was his family. Spending time with his loved ones was his favorite.

Derrick will be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle, and dear friend.

Those left to cherish his memory is his mother; Joann Cox of Plainview, his sons; Zachary McPherson and wife, Jessica, of Lubbock, TX and Craig Gaither and wife, Tesha, of Lockney, his brothers; John McPherson of Plainview and Randall McPherson and wife, Brenda, of Marshall, TX. Derrick was blessed with 4 grandchildren.
