Douglas “Doug” Wesley Irwin, age 82, passed away July 21st, 2022. Born to Wesley and Helen Irwin in Baxter Springs, KS March 5th, 1940. Preceded in death by his brother Captain James “Ron” Irwin, and his best dog Maddie. Survived by his wife Judith “Judy” (Blom), sister-in-law Cheryl Cloud, daughters Cne’ Doran (Mark) and Heidi, grandsons MacKay and Turner, nephews Jon (Jill) and Jaye (Jody, and sons Quinn and Cole).
He attended Carroll University and Sul Ross State University, where he received his BS and MA. A long-time resident of Whitefish Bay, WI, he was an educator, coach, principal and administrator (as well as magician) at Nicolet High School from 1964 - 1990. The lasting influence of his generous character and mentoring will be carried on by so many students, athletes, friends and even strangers.
After 26 years at Nicolet, he retired to a job referred to on his business card as “Freelance Conceptualist - Dogs Spoiled, Horses Hauled, Sailboats Capsized, Philosophies Debunked, GPS Positions Verified”. His loves included sailing, hunting, fly fishing, and seeking adventure. He was a giant, complex, supremely confident man who could do anything, make anything and fix anything.
Per Doug’s wishes, there will be a private family service with a Celebration of Life to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy, North Shore Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.

Remember Doug as he was my gym class teacher in my freshman year at Nicolet covering 1969-1970 and he was a good
guy. Ran into him again, when many
years later I was taking a nostalgic walk
around Nicolet and saw a mostly gray
haired man who looked familiar and it
was Doug and I saidMr Irwinand lo
and behold he remembered me. He
said to call him Doug and was cordial
while telling me he was going to retire
soon. Glad he had retirement relaxation
before his passing. He touched many
livesAll for the better

My condolences, I was at Nicolet while Doug was Vice Principal and I was one of his bad boys that he had to keep in line, and he did! Always with respect which went a long way to my graduating and off to University. I had the pleasure of running into Doug while at UWM when he was play darts at some east side bar. We tipped a few beers and laughed about the shenanigans. It was great to meet Doug the person and not just “Mr. Irwin”. As always he was gracious with his time and it was wonderful that he shot the breeze with one of his reformed bad boys.

Judy, my heart is with you. What a wonderful tribute to your husband. I’m glad you are surrounded by loving daughters. He was bigger than life and lucky to have you. May he rest in peace
