Dear Doreen and Bianca -
Doug's Uncle Russ and I always loved his visits to our home in Vermont. In the beginning (back in the 60's), he was just a little guy - only about 6 feet tall. Of course he spent time on the slopes at Stratton Mtn, but he was always willing to help Uncle Russ with any yard work or home repairs. One of my fondest memories that made us laugh is something he never failed to do - whenever he entered our homes in VT or NY, he would head for the kitchen, open the refrigerator door, take a look and then close it. The only time he took anything out of it was when he made those wonderful, huge breakfast omelets for us in VT. What a guy!!! He was a thinker, a debater, a humorist and a "why does it have to be this or that way" kind of guy. His love for animals was unmatched. Can you picture that BIG GUY having such love for Millie and Max (tiny kittens?) I know there have been many animals since those little cuties that he has loved and cared for.
Doreen, you were the love of his life. How lucky for him that he met you. And Bianca - he was so proud of you, with your music, academics and more.
Please know that my thoughts are with you at this very difficult time.
Judy Nichols, Mount Kisco, NY

Auntie Doreen, Jane, and Bianca,
I'm very sorry about uncle Dougie's passing. He was always there for me as long as I can remember. He was very good to me. He was very generous and kind. He was hard on the outside but kindherated on the inside. He will never be forgotten. Love, Alena

Doreen I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Doug was such a great guy, I really got to know the generous guy that he was working in the tiny room with him at the VA. He defiantly made each day an adventure. He had a big heart and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Doreen,Bianca,Jane,and extended family,
My deepest sympathies to all of you on this sudden and terrible loss. I really don't know where to start with all the terrific memories I have of Doug after knowing him 50 plus years. He became a very best friend during high school(only after his side kick Rod and him finally stopped bullying me.(:
I was so proud when he asked me to be best man at your wedding Doreen, and was so happy for him that you found each other. He loved you and Bianca so much, and you made him a better person as his loving wife these past 11 years.
I can't forget going with Doug and Fenton to Yankee stadium in June, 1969 to see our boyhood idol, 'The Mick' on Mickey Mantle day when they retired #7.What a great time we had that day.
Then there was the time I met Doug with friends in Jackson Hole, and he and I drove together back to Chicago in his volkswagon...and we had to stop in a public park to lay down and 'rest our eyes'...believe me, the need for sleep was not the motive!
Doug could be opinionated/argumentative..da....but he had such a big heart, and you could never find a better, loyal/great friend. I'm going to miss him alot, and know I'm a better person for having known him most of my life...abeit, with a few extra hangovers, for sure!
May you rest in peace, Big Guy with the big heart!
PS-Doreen,I'm sorry I couldn't be there, but I hope you had a wonderful celebration of Doug's life back at the house after services..you know better than anyone, that is what he would have wanted

Doreen ~
I was saddened to hear the news of Doug's passing. I had the opportunity to see him on July 14th, when you were visiting CT. It was a beautiful summer day, and he and Uncle Dan were sitting on the back porch chatting it up. He extended a warm welcome, and it was evident he was comfortable in his surroundings.
May precious memories sustain you, and may God bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead.
With heartfelt sympathy ~

Uncle Doug,
You were a very influential person in my life. When Matthew and I were kids you were always there taking us fishing and taking us to Yankees games. I remember the day after Christmas driving up to Vermont with you, Matthew and Mema. You got me my first snowboarding lesson at Stratton Mountain with Matthew. We had a great time going up there every year with you.
When we got older we lost touch a little. I had two boys of my own and in the past couple of years you were able to meet them. Ethan and Adam enjoyed you very much. Ethan would go around telling people he had two uncles "Uncle Matthew and Uncle Doug". I am glad you got to meet them and spend that time with them.
I want you to know that you pushed me and Matthew to be better people and you have a family that loves you and will miss you very much.

Doreen,
I’m so sorry to hear about Doug. What a shock. Doug was truly one of a kind and much too young to have left us. It was always a ‘unique’ experience working with Doug for those many years. I always looked forward to seeing him on my visits to the pharmacy. He was a big guy with a big heart. We will all miss him...John

Doreen and Bianca, Jane and Family,
I am Dennis's sister, Trisha. I am so sorry for your loss. Doug has been such an important of our family most of my life. We spent many summers at the Jersey Shore, of which I have some many happy and funny memories. The last time I saw him was several years ago, but he glowed when he talked about Noreen and Bianca, how lucky he was to have such a nice family. I know the Dinsmore's will always remember Doug for the warm, funny, terrific person he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Doreen and Bianca you are in our prayers and thoughts. Doug will be missed. In a world that needs characters, Doug was one, and with gusto. His booming voice, smile and stories always really livened up the room.

Doreen,Bianca,Carol, Jane & extended family,
Doug was a dear friend of my brother, Bill, since we were kids growing up on Pinewood Road and gradeschoolers. I literally saw them grow up together. Doug lived life to the fullest extent, had a wonderful sense of humor, and a quick wit. Although we didn't see him often, when we did, their was no shortage of laughter.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family at this very sad time.
Fondly,

The animals in heaven are better off because of folks like Doug and Clare. Between the two of them the noise level has gone up in heaven or the stars or wherever they now reside. My heart so goes out to you and Bianca. He was a lucky man to have you both and what a wonderful family you all made. What a guy. What a guy. What a guy...It was my honor to have known him. Doreen and Bianca, and Jane and Carol.
My sincere condolences to you for your loss of the Big Guy.
It was a little over 10 years ago, maybe quite a few years ago, that Doug and
I left New Jersey and headed West in my Volkswagen. Well, my VW made it
as far as Rapid City, SD, then it was a bus to the Univ of Northern Colorado at Greeley, for my new career after the Navy. After 2 months Doug and I got
back on the bus and headed to Salt Lake City, UT. When we arrived there Doug
knew that is where he wanted to live. I lasted about 6 month before I ran out
of money and went back to NJ. He eventually met you, Doreen and Bianca, and
that made his life complete.
Once again, my sympathies to you Doreen and Bianca and of course to
Jane and Carol.
