Dr. Judith Duga Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2024.
It is with profound sadness and gratitude, for a truly exceptional life lived, that we announce Judith Duga has passed. Dr. Judith Duga was an accompished doctor born and raised in New York City. She was caring and kind beyond measure to all and made the world and the practice of medicine better, with uncommon grace. Deeply devoted to humanity -- a keen listener while being an world class advocate -- as she cared for tens of thouands of people. Lives are far better for her health-care, in both New York and Florida.

Born into and having a small family, her devoted care of others, demonstrated daily, for decades, is an inspiration to all. Dr. Duga believed in leading with gratitude, and purpose in the practice of medicine and did so with her very best efforts in soul and spirit -- on behalf of every patient. She created a legacy for all that lives up to her deeds in service to others. Her courage and love to be good to others in life are deeply admired. May we all strive to emulate her selfless attitude and generosity. A life of humility, decency and accomplishment were her ultimate positive defining characteristics.

A wonderful person who loved children (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) and her animals. Amazing grower of orchids. She often advised Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), making a significant difference in the level of care from lab bench to bedside across the globe. Revolutionzed Endocrinology in the United States as a model for the American Medical Association, and began as a physician at a time when men wanted women to solely be subordinates. It only strengthened her resolve to care for others. Her memory is a blessing to all who knew her.

My husband passed away in 2000. Dr. Duga was our hope our resource of solid helpful information. I´m just now going through papers I haven´t been able to face. There, in the box, is the hand written letter from the doctor expressing her sadness in our loss. I wanted to visit her to tell her how much I appreciated her brilliant mind and her kind heart only to find she too was gone. I hope her loved ones see this and know that prayers are being said and I´m lighting a Yahrzeit candle tonight in her memory. May she rest in eternal peace. She mattered so much to my family.
