Edgar Schlanker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2022.

Edgar Boone Schlanker, 75, of Manchester, MO, passed into eternal life on March 1, 2022 surrounded by the love of his wife, Ellen; son, Nathan of Winston-Salem, NC; and daughter Elizabeth of Petaluma, CA.

He was born on October 17, 1946 in Mexico, MO and was the son of the late E. Boone and Mildred Diekroeger Schlanker, who owned and operated the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City for many years.

He served as Vice President of Investments at Wells Fargo Advisors until his death, and started his more than 45 year career as a respected investment advisor at A.G. Edwards in mid-1970. He was an active member of the Church of St. Michael and St. George in Clayton, where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher for many years. His commitment to community service included volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to support abused and neglected youth. He was known for his generous spirit, steadfast character, and genuine concern for others by family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him. He had an uncanny gift for puns and magic touch in creating magnificent gardens. He enjoyed his sailboat and competitive races. An avid traveler and geography buff, he could tell the location of a town, not only in Missouri, but throughout the U.S.

Boone grew up in Montgomery City, was a member of the Methodist Church choir, an Eagle Scout, and graduated from Montgomery City R-II High School in 1964. His enduring love of history is exemplified by his lifelong membership in the Montgomery County Historical Society. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Central Methodist College in 1968, was a member of the acapella choir, and active in the Young Republicans Club. He taught history and coached track at Newton High School in Newton, Iowa, and subsequently earned a master’s degree in American History from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Boone was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather who took great delight and pride in his family. In addition to his beloved wife and children, he is survived by his granddaughters, Emerson and Farah Rahimian, of Petaluma; his brother, Robert H. Schlanker (Sue); and sister June Berry (Robert); and sister-in-law Clare Millians of Atlanta. Ellen’s two daughters and their families, whom Boone considered as his own: Jennifer Ernst (Steve) and their children, Ellie and Max of Seattle; and Catherine Stuckenschneider (Ken) and their children, Will Pilant and India Stuckenschneider.

Boone was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane Trabue Schlanker.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 4 from 4-8:00 p.m. at SCHRADER Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Rd, Ballwin. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. at The Church of St. Michael and St. George, 6345 Wydown Blvd in Clayton. A private interment will be at the Montgomery City Cemetery. Friends may sign the family's on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The Church of St. Michael and St. George or the Montgomery County Historical Society, 112 W. Second Street, Montgomery City, MO 63361.

So sorry to hear of Edgar's passing. While I really did not know him, I did know his brother Bob. I no longer in Montgomery City, but was the pastor of First Baptist Church for about thirteen years. Bob so sorry to hear of your Brother's passing.

I'm sorry for his passing and for Boone's family. We were classmates of the R-II class of 1964. He was friendly to everyone. Boone had a delightful sense of humor with a ready smile and easy laugh. I remember him as just a great person.

Boonie, as I knew him by, was a wonderful caring person and a delight to be around.
Although it’s been over 50 years since our High School days at R2, I still delight in remembering the many great times we had together. You will be missed, Boonie.

I have known Boone for over 50 years, as a friend and my Investment Manager. Always a gentleman and followed his Scout Oath and Christian upbringing. He will be greatly missed! Prayers of peace to Ellen and all his children.

My thoughts and prayers to the Schlanker family. I did not ever meet Edgar, but I can tell he was a great guy just by remembering how Ellen would light up when talking about him, back when she was to marry him. Her smile said it all. Rest in peace Edgar.

We were so sorry to hear of Boones passing. He was a great person and stockbroker, but also so helpful when my parents passed. I think my parents, Dutch and Mary Fennewald were some of his earliest customers. I have known him since 1990 and always felt he had our best interest at heart.
I knew he had CLL but this was still a surprise.
You have our deepest sympathy.

I only met Boone a couple of times, but the twinkle in his eye and warm personality made me feel like we were long-time friends. I hope your treasured memories and the stories (new and old) shared by others will help bring comfort, smiles and healing to all of you.
