Edward Kirk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 24 to Jul. 6, 2023.
Edward R. Kirk passed away on June 10, 2023, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, due to complications arising from myelofibrosis. He was born on January 19, 1950, in Lewistown, PA, and spent his childhood in East Waterford, PA. Ed was the beloved son of Ross and Catherine Kirk and shared a deep bond with his older sister Judy.

Ed leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Victoria Kirk, whose unwavering support and companionship brought immeasurable joy to his life. Ed's profound love extended to his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Heather Kirk, and his greatest delight was his only grandson, Ace Kirk. He also leaves behind his sister Judy and her husband Joe Rich, along with their children Janet, Joe, and Jessica, with whom he shared many cherished memories.

After graduating from Tuscarora Valley High School, Ed studied business at Thompson Institute in Harrisburg and then worked as a draftsman for an architect, nurturing his deep appreciation for modern architecture. The bulk of his career was then dedicated to ensuring fire and life safety in healthcare facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Ed's expertise in reviewing building plans for the state's fire and life safety codes was invaluable. He served diligently in the Department of Labor and Industry before transitioning to the Department of Health where he was fortunate to retire early at the age of 57.

He found joy in exploring the country, relishing the opportunity to witness the stunning beauty of nature and architectural marvels firsthand. At home, Ed poured his passion into improving his house and property in Shermans Dale, PA, where he spent the majority of his adult life, taking pleasure in crafting a space of beauty and tranquility. In 2020, he moved to Draper, Utah, and then to Waterford, NY in 2021, as he followed his son's family moving for career opportunities. No matter where his home was, he found solace in sitting on his deck, soaking in the serenity of evenings.

Ed's infectious energy, vivacity, and love for life made him the life of the party. His passion for dancing and his innate ability to bring joy to any gathering were legendary. Ed's storytelling abilities captivated all who had the pleasure of hearing his tales, leaving lasting impressions and laughter in their wake. His generous spirit, kindness, and compassion endeared him to all who crossed his path.

A Celebration of Life is planned in honor of Ed on July 29, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the cabin of his dear friends, John and Jeannie Goryl, located at 161 Kennedy Valley Road, Landisburg, PA, 17040. This gathering will be a testament to the joyous spirit that Ed embodied throughout his life, where stories will be shared, laughter will be abundant, and memories will be cherished.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Ed's memory to a charity of your choice.

Ed Kirk's presence touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark of love, laughter, and kindness. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but the memories he created will forever bring comfort and warmth to those who hold him dear. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his spirit continue to dance in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known him.

Vicki,

I´m so sorry I was unable to attend Ed´s memorial this weekend. You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard the news. I know our paths haven´t crossed in more time than I would care to admit, but both you and Ed made a lasting impact on my life. I was so young and you were such friends to me-taking time to spend with someone who was really just a kid, but you treated me with the kindness, joy, and love that part and parcel of who you are.

I´ve become a Broadway fan over the years and there are lines from For Good from Wicked that always make me think of you and Ed and what you mean to me.

`I've heard it said; That people come into our lives; For a reason; Bringing something we must learn; And we are led; To those who help us most to grow...So let me say before we part; So much of me; Is made of what I learned from you; You'll be with me; Like a hand print on my heart; And now whatever way our stories end; I know you have rewritten mine; By being my friend.´

Thank you for sharing your life with me in a very small way. My heart is broken for you and this incredible loss. Ed was an amazing man, and I hope that you find that the warm memories of him provide you with comfort and peace with each passing day. Patty

Vickie, I just ran across Eddie´s obituary, and my heart is saddened. I worked with Eddie at L&I back in the 70´s and he was always a bright spot in the office. Once you met him, you couldn´t help but love him. My condolences to the entire family.
