Edwin Eloe Obituary

Published by Post-Tribune from Feb. 15 to Feb. 16, 2009.
EDWIN KENT ELOE Hebron, IN Edwin Kent Eloe, age 38, of Hebron IN, passed away to be with his Lord Friday night, February 13th, 2009. He died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends, following a valiant three year trial with brain cancer. In his short life, Kent had numerous accomplishments and touched the hearts of many. He worked for fifteen years as a financial advisor for Ameriprise. While this job was an important focus of his life, it was not the primary one. Kent deeply loved and cared for people, and this passion permeated the whole of his life. Kent was committed to helping those in his community, and he did so by serving as a member of the Tri-Creek School Board of Trustees. He also frequently reached out to those who were less fortunate than he, either through ministering to the needy in Gary IN, or by creating a ministry to care for displaced evacuees of Hurricane Katrina. Kent was an active and faithful member of Bethel Church in Crown Point IN. Throughout his many years at Bethel, Kent served as a Deacon, small group leader, children's ministry volunteer, and practically any other role where there was a need. His heart for people led him to serve with honor and distinction, always placing the needs of others and his church community above his own. Kent had a deep and abiding love for his family. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of eight years - Bridgett - and leaves behind three beautiful, young boys - Joshua (7), Ethan (5), and Nolan (4). Kent dearly loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed being with his dad and sons at the Eloe family farm in Nebraska, the outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, and golfing, or simply playing in the yard and chasing his boys around the home. Kent is also survived by his parents - Lowell and Barb Eloe, and his four siblings -Lynette Eloe, Robyn (Mark) Sepko, Denise (Jack) Stewart, and Tim (Becky) Eloe. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Edwin and Evlyn (Scott) Eloe and Ben and Agnes (Harms) Heinis. Despite his many accomplishments, Kent's greatest legacy was his love for Christ and the optimistic faith he never failed to demonstrate, even in his last and difficult days. Those who knew him best will always remember his kind and gentle spirit, his intimate concern for people, his unwavering commitment to integrity, and his steadfast faith in his Lord. Visitation will be held at Bethel Church, 10202 Broadway, Crown Point IN, on Monday, February 16, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Bethel on Tuesday, February 17, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Steve DeWitt officiating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Kent's story and trial with brain cancer can be read at www.eloefamily.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the E. Kent Eloe Memorial Fund through the American Brain Tumor Association. "We do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, NIV. Hi,

My name is Joe Hudson. I was a friend of Kent's way back (in first grade). I remember Kent and I would go to work with our dads and wonder through the halls of Gothenburg High School. I also remember skating on the frozen pond next to the Eloe house. I am very sorry to hear about Kent's death. I hope his family is healing, and I am praying for them. My parents, Jim and Dee Hudson would also like to send their prayers and condolences.
