Elaine Anne Thompson Peluso of
Stony Point, NY died peacefully on November 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Elaine was born and raised in Bronx, NY, where she attended Our Lady of Victory elementary school and Central Commercial High School. After completing high school Elaine attended and graduated with honors from the College of New Rochelle School of Nursing. She worked as an RN for Union Hospital and Westchester Square Hospital over the next few years before moving from Park Chester, (Bronx, NY) to Stony Point (NY).
On May 28th, 1955, Elaine wed John Peluso in Our Lady of Victory Church (Bronx, NY). The couple recently celebrated their 69th anniversary.
Elaine was a homemaker, proud mother of six children, exceptional nurse and citizen of the world. As the years passed and her children were attending school, she began working part-time at Nyack and Ramapo hospitals until she was offered an opportunity with Riverside Nursing Home (now Riverview) as Director of Nursing. She completed her MSN at St Thomas Aquinas College (Sparkill, NY) in 1982, specializing in Gerontology and Infection Control.
Around 1984, Elaine accepted a position with Nyack Manor (now Nyack Ridge) as Director of Quality Assurance and Infection Control, serving the senior community for over 20 years. She retired in 2004, also celebrating over 50 years as a Registered Nurse.
Elaine loved social events, particularly parties with family and friends, and traveled extensively with the American Nurses Association. She was always curious and with numerous certifications to her credit, never stopped learning. We, her family, never kept up with this info. To us...she was always Mom.
Elaine was often called by worried neighbors, friends and family, when someone was hurt or ill. She was also an advocate for friends and even strangers when accidents happened, administering lifesaving first aid and (at their request) accompanying them in the ambulance en route to the hospital. One summer day at the local swimming pool, she resuscitated a young boy while an unnerved young lifeguard looked on.
Elaine was generous with her love through her actions. She was a wonderful role model who supported and campaigned for women before it was popular. Whether baking a special kind of cake, preparing a meal specialty from another country and culture, sewing a costume or helping to add a finishing touch to one of her children's school projects, Elaine was talented, and her terrific sense of humor always shined through.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Thompson, and her brother James Thompson, along with many extended family members and friends who we know will help welcome Elaine to her eternal home.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Peluso, sons John (Lori); Gerard (Cathy); daughters, Joanne Ricci (Raymond) of
Stony Point, NY; Laura McGarvey (Brian) of Pearl River, NY; Karen Peluso of Calabash, North Carolina and Linda Peluso Cone (Billy) of Atlanta, GA and sister, Theresa Thompson of Hazlet, NJ. She is also survived by grandchildren, Richie Koch, Cristina Dillon (Greg), Danielle Perrone (Simon); Kelsey Ann Peluso, Jeanie Elaina Peluso, Raymond Ricci, Jr., Michael Ricci (Hannah), Joseph Ricci, Brian McGarvey, Jr., Sean McGarvey, Conner Peluso, Mia Paige Mancuso, Hailey Nicole Mancuso, Luke Mancuso, Chance Cone (Carol); as well as great-grandchildren, Clark, Zoey Elaine, and Austin Dillon; Nicolina Jean Perrone and Matthew and Noah Ricci and a cadre of loving nieces and nephews.
Our loss is heaven's gain and while we will miss Mom, we know she is out of pain and watching over all of us. The Peluso family also wishes to thank Lily Martin Care and Nyack Home Health Care for their support.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 1 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, 73 N Liberty Dr,
Stony Point, NY 10980. Funeral Services and Mass will be held Monday, December 2, 11:15 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point.
