ABINGDON – Eleanor "Teeny" Dunn Matthews, 92, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at her home.
She was born in Bland, Va., daughter of the late Frank Lee Dunn and Minnie Wayne Peery. She graduated from Charleston High School and the Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing. She and her husband made their home in St. Paul, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Frederick Matthews; two sisters, Frances "Fuzzy" Clark and Mamie "Sis" Mallory; and one brother, William David Dunn.
She is survived by two daughters, Frances Matthews Wall and her husband David W. Wall of Abingdon and Catherine Matthews Gillespie and her husband Robert F. Gillespie of Orange, Va.; one son, Craig Lee Matthews and his wife Kim Matthews of Aiken, S.C.; eight grandchildren, James David Rose Wall, Mark Deleon, John Kavanaugh Gillespie, Mary Grayson Gillespie Butterfield, William Scott Gillespie, John Christopher Matthews, Marybeth Matthews Adkins and Todd Nicholas Matthews; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Eleanor "Teeny" Dunn Matthews will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in St. Therese Catholic Church, St. Paul, with Father Paul Maier officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. The family will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the church, leaving at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood. Online condolences may be sent to the Wall family through our Web site at www.castlewoodfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Saint Paul High School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 976, St. Paul, VA 24283; or the J. Fred Matthews Memorial Library at St. Paul, VA 24283.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
