Elizabeth Bloom Reisbord

September 5, 1939 - April 30, 2025

A renowned visual artist, curator, and painting teacher based in Los Angeles, Elizabeth lived a life devoted to the pursuit of beauty, truth, and expression-in art, nature and with many friends and family members.

Recognized for her emotive oil paintings and watercolors, Elizabeth's work-especially her Lamentation & Jubilation series-explored the shared human experiences of grief and joy. Her art appeared in shows across the U.S. and abroad, including exhibitions at the Hammer Museum, the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture, and Hebrew Union College. A beloved mentor, Elizabeth inspired generations of students with her warmth, wisdom, and belief in the transformative power of art.

She is survived by Dr. David Reisbord, her loving husband of 45 years; daughters, Celia, Pam, Amy, Andrea, and Judy; grandchildren, Alexandra, Daniel, Anya, Emily, Sophie, Kelson and Will; and great-grandchildren, Simon, Sidney, and Audrey. Her vibrant spirit-rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a profound love for the natural world-will continue to live on in her paintings and in all who were touched by her life. Dear David
I was sharing about Liz with another art student and find that she passed away. Please be assured of my prayers for her soul. She will be forever in my heart. I´m so grateful for having met her and learning from her my first water color painting teacher. God be with you. Shalom.

Elizabeth´s Loving Family

June 7, 2025

Here is Elizabeth´s studio, set up for her celebration of life. Much of it is just as it was when she was painting. The family lovingly hung a variety of her work to show the depth and breath of her artistry, imagination, and skill. We displayed her works wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor in the style of the original Barnes Foundation in Lower Merion where she studied. (Hopefully, the two-minute video will work properly.)

I remember seeing your mothers paintings for the first time at Celia´s and Tom´s home. I was so impressed by the beauty, skill and expression displayed in the painting. I think I met your mother when I visited CA. The family met at a restaurant and you all introduced me to bubble tea. Thinking of your family as you grieve and yet celebrate your mother´s life.
