Elizabeth Pinkerton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 22, 2011.
Dec. 18, 2011, notes the peaceful passing of Elizabeth Campbell Pinkerton, age 97. Surrounded by several friends and family members, Mrs. Pinkerton drew her last breath here on earth on Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Gerry Giles of Marvin United Methodist Church will preside over a private graveside service Friday at 11 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.

Mrs. Pinkerton, the second of five children, was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Covington, Tenn., to parents, John Gordon Campbell and Erma Rose Campbell. She married Dr. Gus Pinkerton Jr. on Sept. 1, 1935, and the couple settled in Tyler where Dr. Pinkerton distinguished himself in the profession of dentistry. She was a longtime member of Marvin UMC and active in Tyler society at many levels. Beloved by family members, "Aunt Sis" was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Margaret Campbell Mercer; and her brothers, Joseph Eugene Campbell and James Allen Campbell.

She is survived by her brother, Jesse Gordon Campbell (and his wife Nettie Louise) of Baton Rouge, La.; her sister-in-law, Billie Barton Campbell of Hideaway; and a multitude of nieces and nephews and their families. "Mrs. P" will likewise be missed by many beloved friends and neighbors who knew her and came to love her as family, and she them.

Memorials in honor of Elizabeth Campbell Pinkerton are appreciated and may be made in lieu of flowers to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, Tyler; Marvin UMC, Tyler; or to a favorite charity.
