Elizabeth Pounds Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 30 to May 1, 2009.
Elizabeth Gloria Pounds died April 14, 2009, at her home in Anchorage. She was 27. A service will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church, 3201 Turnagain St., in Anchorage. She was born Oct. 8, 1981, in Des Moines, Iowa. Elizabeth was looking forward to completing her Associate of Arts degree at the University of Alaska this summer and taking a month-long train tour of America with her uncle, Michael. She was employed by Summit Day Media. "Elizabeth had an effervescent spirit and never seemed to meet a stranger," her family recalled. "She was a jewel with so many facets, it's difficult for one person to capture them, so a number of friends and family have added a few words: "Elizabeth was a lover of life, even when it didn't love her back. She was a true kid at heart. The '80s hits were her soundtrack, Strawberry Shortcake and Shrek were her joys, and the friendship of those around her filled her soul. She loved potlucks, hanging out with friends, and talking on the phone." "When Elizabeth was a little girl she was always very inquisitive. Her grandfather and I looked forward to seeing her grow up, go to college and enjoy her life. Elizabeth was a kind and loyal friend who was always trying to grow and be a positive person. She was always there for me, and gave me comfort, laughter and support. Elizabeth was diligent and persistent in all her endeavors even in the face of obstacles." "Elizabeth genuinely made everyone feel special. She never forgot a friend's birthday and always went out of her way to keep in touch. Elizabeth had a uniting spirit - she kept memories alive and friendships kindled even after years of absence. She will truly be missed." She is survived by her uncles, Michael and Russell Pounds; and other family members including Auntie Jeeni, Joe Young and Aunt Gina Young, all in Alaska; as well as many family members in Washington, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Arrangements are with Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home.

What an incredible soul of yours, Elizbeth! I want to thank you (too late now, I know) for asking about my mother's health, without fail, every time I saw you or spoke with you! (She's in her 3rd year of remission.) You were always thinking of others and spreading joy. My biggest regret is never being able to make it to the potlucks... I guess I just let everyday life get in the way. I know you were eager to know the gender of the baby I'm carrying now, and maybe now you DO know! I don't yet... but I'll whisper it up to you on May 11th!
Miss you SO much, dear Elizabeth. May the restrictions that held you down in life be lifted now. Soar, Elizabeth. Soar.
Love Always,
Brenna

Elizabeth was in my 4th grade class at Inlet View. A special thing that happened that year was that one of the other girls in the class made a special point of befriending her. Thanks to Jordan, by the end of the year most of the girls understood Elizabeth's special beauty. I only talked with her once after 4th grade but she will always have a special place in my heart. May wonderful memories comfort you in this time of loss.

Elizabeth was a one in a million kind of person. One would have to go far to find another person so unselfish and loving like her. She showed us that even though sometimes the odds are against us, you will never lose with a smile on your face and being true to yourself. You will be greatly missed, but you have inspired us to be kind to the next person we meet that needs help or to remember to smile. It's good to know that in a world so prejudiced there are still people that love you for who you are.
You're with your mom now and safe from the world. No more worries.
We all love you!

My heart is breaking but I know that she is with her mom again. I have known Elizabeth since we were just kids in Alice and Wonderland. She was the Queen of Hearts. How appropriate is that? She made all of our hearts swell with her kindness and warm spirit. We did theater conservatory for years together. We had our own little family for three months a year that we were absolutely heartbroken to leave when the school year started back up. I always hated it because I knew it would be a while until I saw her again. She will be so sorely missed and I just wish I could tell her how much I am going to miss her. Elizabeth is a truly inspirational person. I feel that she taught us all that if you are open and let people into your heart, you will be fulfilled and you will have a family and you will be special. Elizabeth showed us to love everyone without prejudice. She was amazing. I'll miss her so very, very much.

Elizabeth was one of my "kids" at the Boys and Girls Club School Age Childcare in her grade school days. She was a joy to me and I cherrish all my memories of her in our years together there. Through the years it's always been a treat to bump into Elizabeth at the grocery or the mall...her positive, upbeat, loving personality never failed and I will treasure her memory always.

Elizabeth was a great friend of mine. She and I date back to the 2nd grade. I was so happy to be in touch with her again and was looking forward to pot lucks at her house this summer. She was a ray of sunshine at Inlet View, and a complete riot in our days at West. I'll miss her tremendously and am so pleased to see the responses from people's lives she has touched.

To Elizabeth's family,
I was sincerely shocked and saddened to learn of Elizabeth's passing. She was a student of mine at Romig Middle School. She was an absolute delight and ALWAYS had a smile on her face. Elizabeth dear, you will be missed. May your cheerful spirit live on in the many, many, hearts you've touched.
Warmly and with much love, Chantel

Elizabeth was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. I have so many positive memories with that girl. She is definetly someone that will always have a spot in my heart. I grew up with her, she lived in the first U as we used to call it...on 29th st. We walked home the long way home so we could talk. I am so happy that you and your mother are together again. No more suffering. You will forever be remembered by your bright aura and beautiful smile. I love you.

The first time I met Elizabeth was nearly 20 years ago when we were both attending summer activities and the Boys and Girls Club, though she was 4 years older than myself I would to see her on occassion throughout my life at West High, UAA and walking all over town. Though we were never friends I couldn't help but smile everytime I saw her, she had the most genuine smile that truly lit up any room.
