Dad was hilarious, sometimes it was an impersonation or funny voice, sometimes a more sardonic observation. He was generous with his time with us kids, spending hours making us wooden toys in the shed, or spending weekends at the beach or in the bush, with long chats on the back porch or shed at night, or taking us fishing down at Bicton Baths or Applecross Jetty. He taught us humility, and would stop and chat to anyone. Later in life he took to the road in our childhood Toyota Tarago (Or the Ogarat as he used to call it when we were kids), completing a couple of laps up through the centre, settling for the better part of a decade in various NT towns/cities. He'd holiday in Exmouth and his much loved Mauritius Beach, and eventually moved there. Dad was happy with the small town authenticity of people, and when his time came he refused to come back to a Perth hospital, so Exmouth District Hospital made a special dispensation for him to stay for end of life care, where he passed with his beloved emus milling around the window, and all his kids nearby on 12/11/16. Dad was ever philosophical in the end, meeting his fate with calm acceptance, off on the next big adventure. As per his wishes, a wake with family and friends was organised, a celebration of his life rather than a dreary funeral. 6 months later surrounded by his Exmouth friends, and playing the tunes he'd asked for, we returned his ashes to Mauritius Beach.

DOOHAN (Eric ): My dearly loved cousin, your wicked, inherited sense of humour - the family trait - although missed by everybody, will now again be shared in "spirit land" with your Mum, Uncles and my lovable son Glynn. As I promised, drinks are on Paul! Love always, Robyn

DOOHAN (Eric ): 5.1.1957 - 12.11.2016 Beloved father, son, brother and uncle. Gone from this life but his spirit lives on in the hearts of everyone who loves him. Such a beautiful heart warming and generous spirited man. He always had a way of making everyone laugh in even the darkest of times. Now you're laughing with God, our darling Eric.
