I had Mr. Edstrom for several history classes at Maine South High School. He was also instrumental in starting the Social Science Society, of which I was a member, at Maine South.
He was one of the few teachers that made a lasting impression on me after my graduation in 1968. I am truly sorry to learn he passed away so many years ago. My sympathy to his family. He was a great teacher and human being. One memory, he sometimes wore orange socks.

Eric Edstrom was the most dynamic teacher I ever had, combining intelligence, enthusiasm, and true caring for his students. For me as a teacher and trainer of teachers, he has always been THE exemplar, par excellence. I also enjoyed the emails we exchanged in more recent years about politics, religion and how to never grow old in outlook or in learning.. His memory will be a blessing to us all.,an unforgettable presence in my life and in others. Helen and family, I will convey this to you in person on September 19th. Blessings and prayers your way.

A true friend to those in need. I remember the time my wife exited a bus at the corner of Jones and Hillcrest. The wind was so strong she couldn't walk and held on to a tree for dear life. Eric Edstrom, Jr. to the rescue as he drove her home. So it's no surprise that he and his wife raised thoughtful sons. Much more than beautiful plants were raised in that loving corner garden.

I am deeply saddened to hear of your father's passing. It was Eric who first brought me to Maine West as a student teacher in 1979 and then as a faculty member 6 years later. He was a great mentor to me long after his retirement. A finer man in education would have been difficult to find. Please accept my condolences
