Erma -- oh, what a lovely, lovely lady, inside and out. Erma was an incredibly sweet, most gracious, sincere and sensitive, beautiful, kindhearted woman. All this I learned from just talking with her briefly in Aspen. She was just so very nice and warm to me and my companions during our chat. I will always be grateful for having the chance to meet Erma. My heart still breaks for Erma's family one year later. To Erma's loved ones: My deepest condolences to you. May God bless you and may you find some comfort in knowing your dear sweet Erma touched so many lives. She made a lot of us who knew her for only moments smile for a long, long time afterward. She inspired us with her kind spirit, and she continues to serve as a reminder of how to live a good, full life despite personal tragedy. Thank you for that, dear Erma. I will remember you forever. With much love,

I was sad to hear of the passing of my friend Erma Deutschendorf recently. I had the good fortune to meet her in Aspen in 1999 and managed to stay in touch with her since then. She was a wonderful, kind, and caring person who always took time to visit and share some of her wonderful memories of her son JOHN DENVER, as well as the rest of her family. We shared many visits and phone calls over the years as I would see her in Aspen and Aurora and Las Vegas. I recently lost my own mother in 2008, and her middle name was also Louise. Erma so reminded me of her. I am so grateful to have had a chance to share our wonderful visits together, and will keep her memory always close to my heart. May you rest in peace Erma, and God bless you !!

I just today heard about Erma Deutchendorf-Davis' death. I visited Aspen the summer of 2007 and, after seeing pictures of others' encounters with her in Aspen over the years, at John Denver tributes, as a John Denver fan, I always hoped that I, too, could meet her. She seemed like a lovely, generous person. I can relate to her family's loss. My mother died in July 2009. Her name was also Louise and she was born in 1922, too. My thoughts and prayers are with the Deutschendorf and Swope families during these sad days. May the solid faith John sang about that his uncle Dean found in the song Matthew sustain you. My love to you all.

I had the pleasure of meeting her in Aspen three different years. The last time - in 2008 - we had an exceptionally long, lovely conversation. She made me feel like an old friend. I will miss her beautiful smile, her laugh, and her warmth. She was like a mother to all of us who travel to Aspen in October.

Peace be with you.. I met Erma back in 1997 at the Wheeler Opera House. It was a brief meeting which was very special to me. I told how much I loved and missed John, she said "me too." I gave her a hug and said thank you for all she had given us. I am sure John is thrilled to see her again. Rest in peace.

Erma was a grand lady. Never have I known anyone with such strength and grace. Even under great burdens she handled herself with dignity and honor. I was blessed to know the Deutschendorf family and we were proud to name our son after Dutch. He was a rare man indeed!

My sympathy goes out to Ron and his family and all of Erma's family. She is a great loss and I hope she has left us all with some of her grace.

January 25, 2010

My sympathy goes out to Ron and the Deutschendorf family and friends. I once asked Erma how long she was going to keep coming to Aspen? She replied "as long as I can". I wish I had her strength, as I recently lost my youngest Son, Derek. My Son loved seeing Erma and all of John's family and fans, and going to Windstar. They are all with GOD now, and may they find peace there.

Erma:
In so many ways without knowing you, you found a way into my life through your beloved son John. Without knowing you, you managed to give us all so much joy through your son John. Now we pay the deepest respect, a wonderful and kind lady who loved us all back without knowing many of us and all through your son John. I thank you for so very much and I will miss hearing words of the kind and loving lady you were but will remember you for all that you were, now you are with John and both of you are smiling; God Keep You Both In His Loving Arms.

My condolences to the family! I've enjoyed reading all of the entries thus far. She reminds me so much of my feisty Aunt Norma!
I know she will be missed by many, including those of us who never got the privilege of meeting her.
For some reason, I read about her and developed a distinct impression that she had no regrets. She had awesome sons, a loving family, and so many people who enjoyed her presence (some whom she'd never met).

RIP Erma!

I worked with Erma for a few years at the Pediatric Clinic. She was such a hoot and a fun person to work with. She could never sit still. In between patients she would be hemming clothes on her portable sewing machine. At her Christmas parties she made the best "witches brew" punch. She would bring her mom (her best friend) to happy hour, making her stick to only one gin & tonic. We were always laughing. Always a hard worker and willing to help out, my memories of her are that she enjoyed her friends - both new and old, she was fiercely loyal to all of them (her family too), and she really enjoyed life. She was such a live wire and an inspiration. She will be missed by many people, myself included. My condolences to Bubbles, and all the rest of her family.

Our condolences to the entire Deutschendorf family on the loss of such a wonderful, caring and decent human being, she shared her love and laughter with everyone.

We spoke with Erma and Edna a few times over the years and it was fun to be in their company and talk about Oklahoma and being 'okies' as Paris' family roots are from also. Two very delightful ladies!

May you be comforted at this time of sorrow.

I would like to express my sympathy to all of Erma's family. Although I never met her, I somehow felt I knew her. I ran into her son, John, by chance on a street corner in London in 1988, and he was and remains an important part of my life. I pray that she and John and Dutch are all together now in a lovely, mountainous paradise.

January 23, 2010

My sincere sympathies and prayers go out to Ron and Erma's entire family. May her family and friends cherish the beautiful memories she shared with so many over the years. Erma is so beloved by those of us who admired her strength, her character and good humor.

It's been said that "Back Home Again" was her favorite song by John. These lyrics say it all:

"It's the sweetest thing I know of, just spending time with you
It's the little things that make a house a home.
Like a fire softly burning and supper on the stove.
And the light in your eyes that makes me warm"

May her spirit now fly with the angels....on the wings of a dream. She is now home with Dutch and John.

I met Erma in the last few months of her life. She and I were in the hospital on the same rehab floor. I had an accident in my wheelchair and broke both of my legs and was in a lot of pain, wondering how I would be able to get through rehab. My first day in "group physical therapy" I sat next to Erma. Lucky me. Her feistiness and lovely spirit made me actually enjoy my experience in the hospital. She was delightful, even when she was beating me at bean bag toss or showing me up on leg lifts :). She made it fun. I think I laughed almost every day because of her, and it was that fun and laughter that gave me the reason to get out of bed each day. That, and my desire to finally beat her at the bean bag toss (which I was never able to do)!
Thank you Erma, you were my angel. I only wish I could known you longer.

My Heartfelt Sympathy to all of Erma's family. A favorite memory I have of Erma is one at a lucheon concert. Erma was brought in after all of the rest of us had already started eating...singers told us that we could get up to check out their CDs. Having met Erma previously, when I got up from the table next to her to go look at CDs, I just got up and walked past her...not to disturb her lunch by talking to her. She saw me and grabbed my arm and said, " I want you to meet my sister." Here SHE stopped her lunch to introduce me to Bubbles. I'll never forget that. We had our pictures taken later after lunch. What a remarkably lovely lady. She made me feel like one of the family. I'll miss her greatly.
My prayers are will all of you.
