Floyd Maxson

September 24, 1957 - July 9, 2025

Floyd Maxson, 67, of Stratford, Connecticut, passed away suddenly on July 9, 2025, alongside his beloved wife, Cynthia Ferk, in New Haven Harbor.

Born on September 24, 1957, in the Bronx, New York, to Sandra Diamond and the late Bernard Dorfman, Floyd overcame a difficult childhood and built an extraordinary life through hard work, perseverance, and heart. He started out as a locksmith and tow truck driver-never afraid to get his hands dirty-and eventually became a skilled helicopter pilot, a job he took great pride in. No matter the path, Floyd approached every chapter of his life with grit and a deep desire to help others.

He was known as the go-to "Mr. Fix-It," always willing to lend a hand, fix what was broken, or step in without hesitation. He was the kind of person others leaned on-and he showed up, time and time again.

Floyd is survived by his daughter, Kelly Powell, and her husband, Josh Powell, of Houston, Texas, and by his two cherished grandchildren, Kinsley and Riley Powell. He also leaves behind his son, Jason Maxson and his daughter, Madilynn, of Margate, Florida, and his daughter, Jacqueline Maxson of Sunrise, Florida. In addition, he is survived by his goddaughter, Stephanie Chadwick of Sunrise, Florida.

Floyd is also survived by his mother, Sandra Diamond; his brother, Gary Dorfman; and his sister, Goldie Sinitch. He was a proud uncle to Brittany Sinitch-Menendez and Jessie Sinitch, whom he loved dearly.

Floyd was a man of strong faith and a believer. His loved ones take comfort in knowing he is now at peace.

A memorial service to honor his life will be announced at a later date.

I can't believe this. Floyd loved his family fiercely. He was such a hilarious guy and was equally as giving. He would have done anything for anyone. My heart is just shattered over this news for his family. Rest peacefully, Floyd. You didn't deserve this. The world has lost a good one.
