Harlingen, Texas - Frank Nelson Boggus, 94, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior, on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Eager to meet his Heavenly Father, he told his family often that he was "ready to go". Confined to his home in his later years, he missed spending time with his family and serving his community - both, lifelong passions. The family grieves his passing, yet rejoices in his freedom, knowing that he is a happy man in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Long Boggus; brother, James Lewis Boggus; sister, Lorelle Boggus Youngblood and husband, Jim; Frank's son, Jack Nelson Boggus; and grandson, Austin Frank Boggus. His niece, Sandra Boggus Grawunder, and nephew, Jim Youngblood, also preceded him in death.

Frank is survived by his daughter, Barbara Sue Tucker and John Tucker; son, Robert Frank (Bob) Boggus and wife Karen; and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Boggus.

Frank, "Granpa", was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Maudie Horak Cox (Bubba), children Sterling Nelson Tomlin and Spencer Frank Cox, and Hunter Cox of Harlingen, Texas; Allison Horak Manly (Chad), daughter Kate and son Cash of Dallas, Texas; Ashley Boggus Sarver (Jason), children Londyn Boggus, Finn, and Ivy of Austin, Texas; Kim Boggus and daughter Emery of McAllen, Texas; Katie Boggus Marquez (Jonathan), Oliver and Stella of San Diego, California; Jacob William Boggus (Erica), children Emma Rose and Jackson of Harlingen, Texas; James Nelson Boggus and son Landon Cote of Harlingen, Texas. Frank is also survived by nephew, Wally Nelson Boggus, wife, Shannon, and son, Ryan of Austin, Texas, and nephew, Bill Youngblood of Harlingen, Texas. Also surviving Frank are daughters by love, Deborah Bray Scarborough and Andrea Pedraza.

Frank was born in Brownsville, Texas on August 16, 1928, to Maudie Nelson and James Lewis Boggus. After his father purchased a Ford dealership, the family moved to Harlingen. He lettered as a halfback on the Harlingen High School football squad and graduated in May 1945. He went on to graduate from his beloved Texas A & M University and was always sure to let everyone know he was a proud Aggie! Frank married Peggy, his high school sweetheart, and went on to serve as 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Upon returning to the Valley, he became the Chairman of Boggus Motor Company.

Once settled in Harlingen, Frank became immersed in his community. He loved Harlingen and devoted his time unselfishly to his community. He wore many hats and was known by many names.....Frank, Poncho, F.N., Mr.B.....and his fishing nickname, "The Master"! Frank was a staunch Republican and worked diligently for the Republican Party, serving as a Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1988. Frank helped the Salvation Army for over 40 years. In 2004, he received the Salvation Army's most prestigious award, the William Booth Award named for the Salvation Army founder. Over the years, he volunteered and supported many organizations. One such organization was Loaves and Fishes where he met his close friend and mentor, Bill Reagan, and was devoted to serving the poor in Harlingen and Cameron County. He enjoyed hours of Bible study with Bill, sharing some of his most personal moments. Frank was a long time member of the Methodist Church, charter member of Wesley Methodist Church in Harlingen, where he raised his children and experienced a lifetime of wonderful friends and great memories.

Frank was involved in numerous organizations, clubs, boards and committees, all part of his passion to better his community. His heartfelt desire to serve the people in the area was unmatched. If Frank learned of a need by television or the newspaper or by word of mouth, he was "on it", immediately offering his assistance. Whether it was someone in need of a new home because their house had burned, or a child needing tuition for college, Frank was ready to help. He received many rewards for his good works, but he looked forward to the greatest reward - meeting his Heavenly Father. Frank's entire life was a testament to his love of Christ and his desire to spread the Good News to everyone. All he accomplished in his personal life and his community life was based on his belief that Jesus Christ led the way. He received many blessings and experienced the grace of God's favor. In turn, he shared his blessings. His generosity, his love for family and friends, his whole reason for being was to glorify his Father in Heaven. Many people call Frank a legend. He is legendary because of his faith in God, and his faithful, obedient life.

The Boggus family is grateful for the wonderful care Frank received from his many caregivers and particularly Dr. Bruce Leibert. Dr. Leibert prayed with our Dad at each visit, continuously supporting and encouraging him.

Frank had chosen those friends that he wanted to serve as his pallbearers when the time came. Those who will honor him are special friends, Bob Shepard, Rick Guerrero, Greg Powers, John Van Wyk, Sid Brown, John Phillips, Bobby Farris, Greg Quisenberry, Tudor Uhlhorn and Richard Buttler.

Frank asked that the Wednesday Men's Bible Study be noted as Honorary Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Wesley Preparatory School, 1406 E. Austin Ave., Harlingen, Texas 78550 (www.wesleyharlingen.org), Loaves and Fishes of the RGV, Inc., 514 S. E Street, Harlingen, Texas 78550 (www.lfrgv.org), or to the charity of your choice.

Bob, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He was such a sweet man. My dad and brother worked for him for many years. I would see him often when I worked at TSB. He always greeted me with a hug. He even took time out to attend my mother's funeral. He will always have a special place in my heart. RIP Mr Boggus. My condolences to you and your family.

Bob, please accept our sincere condolences to you and your entire family. There is so much good I could could say about your father - but I'll keep it relatively short.

My father worked for your dad for over 18 years in Harlingen. Your mother Peggy and your father were so gracious and generous to my parents and our family throughout the 70's and 80's. Your father was instrumental in my father acquiring his first dealership in Raymondville, TX. We could not be more grateful.

Your father will be sorely missed by so many. I pray for peace for each of you during this time and in the coming weeks and months ahead. Thank you Mr. Frank Boggus for having been an indelible part our lives.
