DeAndrea Family,
I have just received word of your Father's passing. My deepest regrets to all of you.
I met Frank while working at the John Stobart Gallery and sold many of his paintings and commissioned his art to friends and business folks. He was a wonderful mentor to me and we kept in touch after I moved to Boulder, CO.
He most definitely is one of Pittsburgh's premier artists. I shall always remember his kind ways and manners. A genuine man.

DeAndrea
Family,
I was shocked to hear of Frank's death. He always came to Bloomfield
Jewelry for gifts for his family; I just saw him right before
Christmas. About a year ago he painted me two pictures of Pittsburgh.
I'll always treasure them and remember his gentle personality.

DeAndrea Family,
It is with great sadness that we express our condolences. My husband and I consider it an honor and privilege to have known Frank as a friend. I first saw one of his paintings in the home of a Pittsburgh CEO. It was hanging near an easily recognizable Oakland painting by Nat Youngblood. I was so impressed with Frank's work that I wrote down his name, so I could research him further. My husband did one better and invited him over to the house and we got to meet him. Frank the artist will go down as one of Western Pennsylvania's finest artists, like A.H. Gorson.
He was friends with and actually fed work as an Art Director to Henry Koerner and hoped to someday take-up the invitation of friend Professor John DelMonte and visit his school in Lucca, Italy. He never took that trip.
Frank loved the Pittsburgh rivers and painted them outside directly from the banks. He was an old school master. When he painted his steel mills, he paid great detail to accuracy and would go to the Carnegie Museum to catch photos from all angles. He said that he did adjust facts for artistic composition- but it was important that his paintings told the story of Pittsburgh. That was part of his left-brain persona as a businessman. Frank the artist was gifted, but Frank the man was a gift to us. His devotion, to his seven children and grandchildren, was tenacious. Unlike the capricious nature of some artists, Frank worked hard consistently, not to create a legacy for himself but to give a future to his beautiful family. That is the mission that he believed his wife left for him to finish. He would often say "this is a good day to paint - there is good light." We wish your family days filled with good light- I know he's still watching out for you 'til you meet again on the other side. Frank, we love you and will remember you everytime we see a river boat or the Pittsburgh skyline. Love,
Mary Ellen and Frank Costa

DeAndrea's,
My deepest sympathies to your whole family. I am truly honored to have lived next to Frank (and your family for that matter) for my whole life. He was one of the most kind and generous men that I have ever met. I'll never forget all the memorable times I had during my childhood at Frank’s playing on the swing, shooting hoops, and washing all the Cadillac’s! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Paul and family,
It is with much sadness that I read of your dear fathers passing. I only met your dad at your wedding but I am sure he was a wonderful man to raise such a kind and caring son as you Paul. It hurts so to lose one we love but to know that he is in Gods hands helps make the sorrow of our loss easier. I can hear Gods words to him as he entered the kingdom,"welcome home my good and faithful servant." As the angels delivered him to God I am sure heaven became a nicer place that day. May your beautiful memories of him bring you comfort and may your dear father rest in peace. God bless you all.
Sincere sympathy,
Mildred Welsch

Dear Frank,Carol and Family, I am in Wilmington, Delaware visiting my daughter and won't be able to spend time with you as you say good-by to your dear Dad.
I am sorry that I never got to meet your Father but he had to be a wonderful and special person to have a son as goood as Frank. Frank is loved by all and has a son that is as nice as he is. Chris is a wonderful refection of his Dad just as Frank has always been of his. Know that you are all in my heart and in my prayers.
