Frank P. Garnero

1925 ~ 2012

MONTEREY - Frank was taken from us suddenly on July 11, 2012. Anyone who knew Frank will remember his easy going nature, quick wit, great sense of humor, and love of golf. Frank lived a full life remembering the numerous details of his travels, his favorite sports teams, and the many exceptional people who enriched his life. Born in Fresno, CA in 1925 to Emma and Joseph Garnero, he spent his childhood in Clovis, but called Monterey his home when he moved here in 1942 and graduated from Monterey High School. He joined the U.S. Navy Air Force and was stationed in the South Pacific in 1943. He married Gloria Fassio in 1948 in Castroville, and they settled in Monterey. He worked for the family bakery business, Garnero's Bakery, until he went out on his own operating Wishart's Bakery in Carmel from 1959 to when he retired in 1986.

Frank loved all forms of sports and excelled in many. He played softball and was inducted in to the Bowling Hall of Fame for his high series record at Monterey Lanes. He joined the Monterey Peninsula Country Club in 1976 and since then golf has been his game of passion. He was very proud and humbled by his two holes in one in 1994 and again in 2011. He was also a member of the Monterey Elks Club and the Italian Catholic Federation.

He left behind an adoring family; his wife of 64 years, Gloria; and his three daughters: Yvonne (Zeph) Despard, Kristy (Jerry Lively) Obbink and Cori (Don) Tuck; four grand children: Alex Obbink, Will Despard, Lauren and Sara Tuck. They will be forever grateful for instilling in them a strong work ethic, the importance of honesty and the value of family and friendship. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Edward, Chester and Alfred and his granddaughter, Adrian Despard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. The family will honor his life in a private ceremony. His friends and extended family are invited to a gathering on Monday, July 23, 2012 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Monterey Elks Club to toast and share stories in honor of his 87 years of life.

Hello
I had the luxury of going to Wishart's Bakery during my childhood in Carmel. The Bear Claws and Butter Horns that
Mr Garnero made were absolutely 'The Best'. I cherish
the memory of Wishart's Bakery. Thank You Mr. Garnero for such sweet memories... God Bless You.

Dear Gloria, our prayers go out to you and your family. Frank was always thoughtful and caring to me and my mother, as you were, and for that I will always be grateful. Sincerely, David & Beverly Garcia.
