78, the "Candy Man" of Canonsburg, owner Sarris Candies, accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist, suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2010 in his home, beloved husband of Athena Kontos, father of William Frank Sarris (Jamie) of Eighty Four and Sophia Heon (Steve) of Canonsburg; brother of Bessie Johns (Manuel), Evelyn Volas (Eric) and Mary Kotlinski and late Kay Andamasaris; grandfather of Athena Simms (Ian) and Candace Sarris; great grandfather of Landen and Lucca Simms; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation from 2 to 8 pm Wednesday, and Thursday at All Saint's Greek Orthodox Church, 601 West McMurray Road, Canonsburg and from 10 to 11 am Friday, March 5, the time of services with Father George L. Livanos officiating. Trisagion services 7 pm Friday. When I read the story of Sarris Candies, I thought it was one of the most touching love stories ever! Generations of my family has had the pleasure of Sarris Candies, and it quickly became a new tradition for my now 3 year old son. Thank you for wonderful memories and you are in our prayers. I always greatly admired the life Frank lived, the family he created and the quality of his friendships. I know I am not the only one who's day was instantly brighter the moment I met him. My sympathy to the countless people who are suffering from the loss of a truly brilliant and loving man.

Sarris Candies have been a tradition in our family for as long as I can remember. It isn't Christmas or Easter unless we have Sarris Candies in the house. The Sarris family has built a wonderful, joyfilled product of great quality that has inspired countless people and brought sheer happiness to millions. His legacy will continue as long as the company keeps strong to their roots and follows his principals. We need more businesses like Sarris who stand for quality, and delight in making the customer happy. I never met Mr. Sarris, but I had the pleasure of knowing some of his extended family. He surely is smiling in heaven with the angels, and our family will keep yours in prayer.

I was so saddened to hear of Frank's sudden death. He was the best. Everyone loved and admired Frank. Caring, fun-loving, dedicated, personable, sincere, loyal, and not to mention a fabulous family man, are just a few words that characterize Frank.

First dealt with Sarris' in 1982 when our first daughter entered Seton-LaSalle High. Was co-candy chairman and have been buying Sarris candy since then. Love your ice cream parlor and it sure is a neat way to spend the day browsing enjoying home-made. Thanks for the memories.

From all that I have read, Mr. Sarris seemed like the kind of guy that epitomized the best of what this country has to offer ... committed to Church, Family, Business and Community at large ... and a nice guy, to boot!

I first became aware of the philanthropic gifts of Frank Sarris and the Sarris family through the Starzl Institute. My son had a kidney transplant several years ago, and the kind, generous donations of Frank Sarris was most evident. A truly wonderful person. My deepest condolences to the Sarris family.

It could be a small thing to many but in trips to the transplant center, I thought of the kindness of the Sarris' in setting up a coffee center there. Their gift is something that is a kindness touching many lives in undoubtedly difficult circumstances. This is just how God wants us to serve Him.

He always had a warm smile and a kind word to say. Growing up in Canonsburg going to Sarris'was a treat. The things best remembered in life are shared memories. Countless trips to Sarris Candies created and has been a part of those memories for my family over the years. Whenever I come home to Pittsburgh for a visit, it's the first question my nieces have for me, "Are you taking us to Sarris'?" "Yes! Always!" , I say. Thank you Frank for helping us make memories!

As a child, going to Sarris Candies was always a magical experience. From the ice cream parlor to the chocolate castle, I loved everything about it and now as an adult, I enjoy sharing that experience with my nieces and nephews. I no longer live in the Pittsburgh area, but every time I travel to Pittsburgh the first thing I do in the airport is stop at the rite aid because I know that I can pick up a bar of Sarris chocolate. Once you’ve had Sarris chocolate, nothing else can compare. Frank Sarris has built an incredible company that none can compare. My heartfelt sympathies to the Sarris family on your loss. What a tremendous loss for our town. Mr. Sarris was our own Willy Wonka. His legacy will live forever in Canonsburg in so many ways, not the least of which will be the Frank Sarris Public Library. Sarris chocolates became our family's "must have" each holiday season, and as children we looked forward to visiting the Cannonsburg store for chocolates, ice cream and the piano!
