Freddie Enright Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2024.
Freddie Lee Enright passed on December 2, 2024, at his home in Eugene, Oregon. He was born on September 28, 1947, in Oakland, California to Edna Eileen Ellesen who married John Francis Enright when Freddie was three. John officially adopted Freddie at the age of 12. Freddie's family lived in Weed, California before moving to Sacramento, where he attended Hiram Johnson High School. After graduation, Freddie enlisted in the Marines where he won a medal for sharpshooting. After being honorably discharged two years later, he attended Oregon Technical Institute and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Surveying. While studying, he found the love of his life, Lynndi. They met in 1976 at a dance in her hometown of Yreka, California, and married in 1979. Fred and Lynndi welcomed their first child, Eric, to their family in 1981. After working several short-term contract jobs in Montana, California, Saudi Arabia, and Alaska, their second son, Trevor, was born in 1985. The family of four settled in Eugene, Oregon in 1986 where Freddie began his long and successful career working for the Lane County Engineering Department.

Freddie enjoyed camping trips throughout Oregon with his family and loved fishing with his boys on the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers. He was an avid tennis player, a passion he shared with his sons. He played darts both competitively and in the backyard surrounded by friends with a beer in hand. Freddie's greatest gift, however, was his innate curiosity. He dove deeply into learning, never finding anything dull or unworthy of exploration. His curiosity and passion for knowledge led to hours of research and expertise in everything from fly tying and spey casting to building his own epic shop/man cave. Close friends and family will remember him for his perfect BBQ and smoked meats, roasting his own coffee beans, and practicing his golf skills in the shop on his simulator. He was a man of simple tastes who appreciated life's pleasures: watching YouTube videos, savoring a good cigar, and enjoying single-malt scotch. Reflecting on his life, he considered himself "a lucky boy," believing his family was the best part of it. Freddie is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lynndi, his son Eric and wife Rhonda, his son Trevor and wife Allison, and his beloved granddaughter Heather.

January 25, 2025

I´ve just learned that Freddie died. His mother and father, our "Uncle Buddy and Aunt Edna", were my grandmother´s brother and sister in law, and my mom´s uncle and aunt-in-law. Freddie was a bit older than my generation of cousins, but he was the youngest of his generation of cousins. Here is Freddie at two family events: My own birthday party in 1959 and a large family gathering for a baptism likely the same year.

Little factoid. Freddie´s adopted Dad, John Francis Enright (Uncle Buddy) was named after his father John Francis Enright, he being the brother of the same Margaret Enright Weatherly who helped put the song Danny Boy to music.

My condolences to Freddie´s family.
