Garry Thome

Garry Thome April 20, 1951 to March 23, 2011 Garry is survived by his loving wife Deb; daughter and son-in-law Chandra and Rob; grandson Cameron; and family dog Toby. Garry was born in Eatonia, SK and grew up in southern Saskatchewan. From a young age he developed a passion for hunting, fishing and fast cars. After graduation, and working various jobs in Alberta, Garry returned to Saskatchewan to farm in Rouleau. One year after returning to Saskatchewan, he met the love of his life his wife of 37 years, Deb. Eighteen months later their daughter Chandra arrived and the little family settled down to farm life. Garry, Deb and Chandra enjoyed fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and family camping trips. After 32 years of farming Garry and Deb packed it in and moved north to be closer to Chandra, Rob and Cameron. In 2008 Garry found a new passion in life, driving truck for La Ronge Petroleum. He loved travelling the northern roads, meeting other truckers and making new friends wherever he went. He would go snowmobiling or fishing at every opportunity and up to the day he passed he was making plans for future trips. One of his last snowmobile trips he made was taking his buddy grandson Cameron on a tour around the lake. Garry loved anything with a motor and even in hospital was requesting Auto Traders and Snowmobile magazines. This passion he shared with Rob and Chandra and passed onto his grandson Cameron. Garry lived a good life especially the last 3 years in La Ronge. He loved the area and enjoyed the many friends he made, his only regret was not moving here sooner. Whenever Garry was being treated for cancer, what bothered him most were the sick kids he saw. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26th, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, LaRonge, Sk. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, first right past Briargate Road), Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to The Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children (Box 1025, LaRonge, Sk.
