Gary Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2024.
Gary Lee Smith, born on December 18, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, in Burleson, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Gary was married to Linda Chester Smith for 54 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to his son, Brian Smith, and his daughters, Angela McGuire and her husband Jonathan, and Melissa Grimes and her husband Derald. Gary took immense joy in being a grandfather to Abigail Smith, Maddie and Owen Grimes, Grayson and Hattie McGuire, and a great-grandfather to Aleah and Ronan.

An avid fisherman and golfer, Gary found great pleasure in spending time outdoors. However, his greatest joy came from being surrounded by his grandchildren, creating lasting memories that they will treasure forever.

Gary is also survived by his brothers, Darrell Martin and Dennis Smith, who will miss him dearly. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His warmth, kindness, and passion for life will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 6-8pm.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 4 2024 at 2:30pm.

Both will take place at Mount Olivet Funeral home located at 2301 North Sylvania, Fort Worth, TX 76111.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.

My first memory of Gary was at a family gathering and I must´ve been 11 or 12 and I learned that he worked for the railroad like my dad. I thought that was pretty cool. He always struck me as a quiet and kind person. I´m so sorry for your family´s loss and you have my love and condolences.

Darts! Every Saturday night, team during the week or any tournament. I will miss your kind soul and laugh. It's been many many years but I still hear your kind voice. The love you and Linda had is from fairy tales. Until we meet again my friend...I love you.
