George J. McCarthy, 62, of Flower Mound Texas and Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away, Thursday, July 17, 2017 at his home in Avon Lake after a five month illness with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Mr. McCarthy was born August 6, 1951 in Providence, Rhode Island. Mr. McCarthy had a 40 year career with the Sherwin-Williams Company which started in Narragansett, Rhode Island as an assistant store manager and was cut short by his illness just recently as he was the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Director of Global Market Development, based out of the Cleveland, Ohio Headquarters. He, like the Sherwin-Williams logo, which depicts a paint can pouring paint to cover the earth, had a career which afforded him the opportunity to the world, living and working in New England, the East Coast, Atlanta, Dallas, Shanghai, Singapore and Cleveland as well as traveling the globe. Despite his success, he remained humble and lived a simple life, remaining accessible to the many lives he touched around the world. Most importantly, he was accessible to his family no matter in what country or how far away he was, he found a way to be with them and make time for them. He was a proud dad and granddad. He was an avid sports fan, in particular, he had a love of baseball. In what little free time he could find, he enjoyed a spirited round of golf. George is the beloved husband of Patricia A. (nee Kopeski). He is the loving father of Eric (Melissa), Heather, Laura Spurlock (Stephen), Gregory (Sheila) and devoted granddad of Abigail, Owen, Colin Tryston and Asher. In addition he is also the adoring brother and best friend of Keith McCarthy and Kathleen Fontenault; He is preceded in death by his parents George R. McCarthy and Doris (nee Perrault). The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in George's name and may be forwarded to Leukemia Lymphoma Society, 5700 Brecksville Road, 3rd Floor, Independence, OH 44131 or online at www.lls.org/noh. The family is planning a memorial service which will be held on Thursday, July 31 at the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Home in Greenville, RI. at 11:00am. Arrangements are by the Busch Funeral Home, Avon Lake, Ohio. www.buschcares.com 440-933-3202

Living a successful life isn't about careers and wealth; it's about how many lives you touch along the way. It's about making a difference in the lives of others and the world. George did this and he lived a "spiritual" life - meaning believing in the good in others, always helping people, having a kind word to say, thinking and doing positive things - doting on his wife and family; he was a very good, honest and fair man. Best brother in law one could ever ask for. A true role model for all businessmen, Dads, husbands and friends to follow. I love you and will miss you, your jokes and your laugh. You will always remain in my heart. Hugs to you George. Love Donna
