George Robert Steveson

Services for George Robert Steveson, 67, of Lufkin, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2006 in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor David Sarver officiating. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery. George was born January 18, 1939, in Madisonville, Texas, and he passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Steveson was one of eight children born to J.R. and Dovie Steveson. He grew up and attended schools in and around Lufkin. He started working at a young age for his dad at Steve's garage. Later, he helped to keep the paper mill running for 31 years. His much deserved retirement started July, 2000. As a young man, he loved the outdoors, being in the woods hunting and fishing, when time permitted. He stopped because he was afraid he might "bag" something and have to clean and cook it. George begat two wonderful children who in turn gave him six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren to love and cherish. He was affectionately known as "Pappy". George was part of the church at Brother's Keeper in Homer. Hearing God's word, the music and his church family was important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob Lee Steveson and Michael Len Steveson; and two sisters, Francis Van Eman and Martha Wilson. He left to honor his memory, his wife of 47 years, Elaine Steveson of Lufkin; daughter, Julie Steveson of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Glenn and Kim Steveson of Lufkin; grandchildren, Amanda Foy and husband Gary, Matthew Steveson, Shain Steveson, Katherine Wright, Shawn Steveson and Kaleb Steveson; 2 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Adison Foy; brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Bud) and JoAnn Steveson of Lufkin and John and Carolyn Steveson of Maryland; sister, Julia Foreman of Channelview; sister-in-law, Kathy Steveson of Henderson; brother-in-law, Ron Wilson of Alvin; many nephews, nieces and friends. He loved and was loved by all. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home. Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Directors; John Kennedy, director.
