Gerard "Jerry" Benedict Foley, 71, of Athens, Georgia, died Thursday, August 17, 2017. He was born in Bronx, New York on April 13, 1946, the son of the late Michael and Bridget Delia Foley. He graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY in 1968 with a BA degree in Economics. He lived and worked in NYC until 1973 when the family relocated to Georgia. Jerry earned a BS degree in Environmental Health Science from The University of Georgia in 1978. He worked at Johnson & Johnson for 11 years and ultimately retired in 2012 from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) as a Lead Auditor. He also served 6 years in the US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1979. Jerry was a consummate learner, never met a stranger and truly perfected his own art of sarcasm. He will be greatly missed by the lucky ones who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Susan Foley, his sister Mary Carroll of Bloomfield, NJ, his brother Michael Foley of Brooklyn, NY, his three children, Jennifer Mabee and her husband, Scott, of Leesburg, GA, Kathleen Manor and her husband, Britt, of Longparish, U.K., Daniel Foley and his wife, Rachel, of Fort Campbell, KY, and seven grandchildren, who affectionately called him PaPa: Ryan, Owen and Aidan Mabee, Lilly and Erin Manor, and Liam and Evan Foley.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Catholic Center at UGA, followed by interment at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 on Monday, August 21st. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Center at UGA, 1344 South Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605, to Iona College, Joyce Advancement House, 715 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801, or to a charity of your choice.
