Gertrude Hoffman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2018.
Waterford - Gertrude (Page) Reagan Hoffman, 95, of Atria Crossroads Place in Waterford, passed away into eternal life surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 1, 2018, after a long, healthy life.

Gertrude was born in New London, on June 18, 1923, the daughter of Harry G. and May (Crocker) Page. She married James Vincent Reagan on Aug. 7, 1950 in Old Lyme, and after his passing, later married Wesley Edward Hoffman on March 17, 1993 in Waterford. Gertrude was the last surviving child of 12 Page siblings.

Gertrude graduated from Fitch High School in Groton, and was employed by Electric Boat, the Railway Express, and along with being a homemaker, was a housekeeper for various families in Niantic and Old Lyme, including Dr. Roger Tory Peterson. Having recently celebrated her 95th birthday, she filled her life with many activities, including 10-pin bowling, knitting sweaters, hats, booties and blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed a Boston Red Sox game or UConn Huskies women's basketball game unless the power was out. Gertrude was also a very competitive Pitch card game player and loved to travel to the Midwest to spend the holidays and play cards with her family. Her favorite past-times included making homemade applesauce, knitting dishcloths for family and friends and going for walks on the Niantic Boardwalk.

She is survived by three children, Ellen Maziarz (Walter) of Concord, N.H., Luann Hranka (Dave Wiggers) of Morton, Ill. and Kevin Reagan (Jackie) of Norwich; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who enjoyed taking her out to lunch for her all-time favorite lobster roll. Her tabby cat and constant companion, Miss Abby, will miss her greatly.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Roger, Harold Jr. and Charles; her sisters, Lillian Boiselle, Marion Page, Doris Avery, Helen Rice, Evelyn Scully, Harriet Mann and Marjorie Page; and one grandson.

The family would like to thank the dedicated team of professionals at Beechwood Post Acute & Transitional Care in New London, for the kind and loving care extended to "Gert."

A memorial service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Niantic Baptist Church, 443 Main St., Niantic. Attendees are welcome to attend the 9:30 a.m. worship preceding the memorial service. Otherwise, please arrive at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gertrude's memory may be sent to Niantic Baptist Church, P.O. Box 502, Niantic, Connecticut 06357.
