Glenn Phillip HalesWASHINGTON TERRACE - Glenn Phillip Hales passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at the Wasatch Care Center after a long and valiant struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Glenn was born December 2, 1926, in Ogden, Utah, the sixth son of George LeRoy and Georgina Frandsen Hales. He attended Washington School, Ogden High School and Ogden Business College. Glenn served in the United States Army and participated in significant action that liberated the Philippines. He was truly blessed to come through the entire campaign without injuries or wounds. He finished his military service in Korea. He began work at the OUR&D Railroad at age 16, starting as a "call boy" and working up to chief clerk. He retired in 1986 after 43 years of service. Glenn married Klea VandenBosch on October 11, 1949, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of four daughters and one son, Jann (Donald) Solomon, North Salt Lake; Deborah (Douglas) Hartmann (deceased); Brook Phillip (D enise) , Grantsville; Lisa (Mark) McFarland, West Weber; and Jenene (Louis) Martinez, Riverdale. He is the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Following Debbie's death in 1982, her daughter, Rebekah, lived with Glenn and Klea. Rebekah and Glenn developed a loving father-daughter relationship filling the void in Glenn's life left by her mother's death. Glenn served as elder's quorum president, counselor in the Ogden First Ward bishopric, bishop of the Ogden First Ward, high priest group leader, stake Sunday School president, stake high councilor, and as an ordinance worker for ten years in the Ogden Utah Temple with his wife, Klea. He enjoyed being in ward and stake plays and also enjoyed playing Santa Claus at ward parties. He also very much enjoyed attending General Priesthood Meeting in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. Glenn loved sports, especially baseball and the Utah Jazz. He played softball for the Ogden Business College and for various wa rd teams. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie, his parents, and his five older brothers, Francis, Arthur, Stanley, George and Robert. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Wasatch Care Center for their loving assistance over the past several months as well as to Dr. Harry Senekjian. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 7th at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 10th Ward, 125 East 5350 South, with President Brook Hales, officiating. Friends and family may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
