I am so sorry for the passing of one of Merrick's legends. My parents, whose first house in Merrick was across the street from her inlaws, once double dated with Grace and Ralph and attended their wedding. I very often ran into Grace in Vanity and always said hello to her. She once awarded a first prize blue ribbon to my mom for a crewel embroidery my mom made. May her memory be a blessing.

Mrs. Caso was my 2nd grade teacher at Park Ave School in North Merrick in 1959-1960. She was a very nice person and very good teacher. I grew up to become a special education teacher and college professor with a Ph.D in education.
My strongest memory was that we could play outside in the playground before the bell rang to begin school and then each class lined up with their teacher and entered the school. One spring Monday I was excited because I had joined Little League and all my friends said we would wear our uniforms to school on Monday. My Mom warned me that the others would not follow through but she allowed me to wear my full uniform to school (now it was be totally ok). In the school yard, sure enough, no one else wore their uniform; one other student wore the shirt. Mrs. Caso had a talk with me about my attire and when we lined up in the playground, she had several other students cover me up so the principal would not see me.
When we got into the classroom she told I had to walk home at lunch time and change my clothes--which I did. I am not sure if my Mom said "I told you ". My condolences to your family. I was fortunate to have Mrs. Caso as one of my teachers.
