Grace Yee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 21 to Oct. 22, 2022.
Grace Aurelia Yee, 89, of San Francisco, CA passed away on September 26th, 2022 after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.

Grace was born on September 25th, 1933 in Trinidad and Tobago. Her parents were Edward and Adriana Lee Chie. She was raised by her grandmother Grace Tim Pow. At nineteen, Grace met Eugene Yee on a double date. By the end of the evening, they left with each other instead of their original dates. They were married five years later.

In the sixties, Grace, Eugene, and their three children moved to San Francisco for more opportunities. Caring deeply for her family and helping to raise multiple generations, Grace was active in her children and grandchildren's schooling as Star of the Sea Parents Guild President and an aide at Frank McCoppin Elementary School. Grace enjoyed knitting, spending time with her friends and family, and Cadbury chocolates. She was known for her immaculately clean house, candid speech, and incredible appetite. Grace was a strong willed, passionate person who advocated for others. She will be greatly missed.

Grace is survived by her husband, Eugene; their three children, Grace A. Yee, Allison Clapper (John), and Mark Yee (Rich Wyatt); their grandchildren, Monica Crussell (Jon), Gillian Heitman, and Jin Clapper; and their great granddaughter, Mina Crussell.

Services are still being planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

We knew Grace and Gene from back home in Trinidad but when they emigrated we lost contact.
We arrived in San Francisco in 1970.
Imagine surprise and joy when we saw them both in front of Sears on Masonic Ave one day in 1970.
We were overwhelmed with gratitude when we were invited to overnight on Christmas Eve at their home, with two of our kids who were just a bit younger than theirs. They were the only family from Trinidad that we knew in San Francisco and were extremely happy that we could enjoy each other's company as we shared many happy times together. Whenever Grace sampled a new dish at a restaurant, her taste buds would recognize each ingredient and so she would cook the same dish at home for the enjoyment of her family.
Grace will be remembered for her generosity and outspokenness, her quick wit and hearty laughter.
Condolences to all family members for their pain and sadness as they watched their loved one suffer. May her soul rest in peace.
John and Marilyn on behalf of our family

I'm so sorry to hear of Auntie Grace's passing. I remember her sense of humor, the way her shoulders shrugged up and down with her infectious laugh. Blessings for the whole family! Lesli (daughter of friends John and Marilyn Lee)
