Gwendoline NORTH Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Mar. 15 to Mar. 16, 2016.
NORTH, Gwendoline (Gwen) Joan
Gwen North died on March 12, 2016 at the age of 83. She will be missed by her sisters Ruth and Suzanne; her nieces Catherine, Nancy, and Beverly; her nephews Ian and Steve; her beloved great niece and nephews Lauren, Sean, Thomas, and Justin who always referred to her as "A.G."; and by her many friends. Gwen had a long career as a devoted high school teacher and librarian in Calgary. She will be remembered by the countless students she was so passionate about helping, and the colleagues she enjoyed working with. Gwen loved to travel, and spent many happy summers overseas walking through the cities of Europe, particularly London and its surrounding areas. In her later years, she stayed closer to home, but still enjoyed visiting friends and family across Canada, along with the occasional jaunt to sunny climates like Hawaii and Mexico. Gwen loved music and the theatre. She spent many happy evenings at concerts with friends both at home and while travelling. She enjoyed entertaining, and dinners at her home were a welcome regular event for both friends and family. Gwen never missed the opportunity to mail out a card, many of which she made herself. Equally, she loved to receive them and was known to drop broad hints when her friends and family went on vacation or during the holidays. She was in every way an exceptional individual, respected and loved by all who had the good fortune to know her. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of their choice. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Gwen North, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

I'm sure that this is my French Teacher from Fort Macleod, in 1954-56.
There is no mention of her teaching in Macleod in the Obituary but the photo sure looks like her.
My Gwen North was an inspiration to me to go the the University of Alberta and take Engineering. She and my Science teacher Peter Boldt changed my life. I hope someone can confirm my thoughts.

Gwen was a librarian who knew how to gather things together to entice others to respond. At Scarlett High School, she joined the rush to grab a 'free' computer which eventually led to us collaborating on a library-lending program. Her comments and insight on life will be missed.

Gwen was first and foremost a friend. Her friendships were active ones - travel, theatre, recitals, book discussions, origami and card making, ... and her dinners. Gwen's place was a modern salon and you never quite knew who your dinner partners might be.. Her life was rich and full, of fun and genuine interest in the lives of those people fortunate enough to call her friend. She will be missed by many.

Ruth, Sue and all of the Caldwell Clan. I was so saddened when Ian sent me the message about AG. She truly was one of a kind who thought the world of all of you. She was always a joy to be around as she took the time to give you her sole attention, taking great interest in whomever she was talking with about any topic. I always enjoyed her meals and her rule of "trying everything on the menu". She will always hold a special place in my heart and I think of her each time I make mashed potatoes!!!
Our thoughts are with you all at this time.
