Harlan S. Waid Sr.

JEFFERSON — Harlan S. Waid Sr., age 92, of Dodgeville Road, New Lyme, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Jefferson Health Care in Jefferson.Born Sept. 30, 1917, in Kinsman, Ohio, he was the son of Walter and Margaret (Sample) Waid and has been a lifetime area resident.He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He and his brother, Charles, owned Waid Brothers who did farming and were lumbermen.He had been a New Lyme Trustee and a member of the Farm Bureau. Harlan enjoyed going to the Farm Science Review; visiting his sister in Alaska; and talking politics.Surviving him are his wife, Emma (Cvitic) Waid, whom he married in 1953; two sons, Joseph (Karen) Waid of New Lyme and Dr. Harlan (Lorraine) Waid Jr. of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Megan, Mallory, Margot, Colin, Alan and Bridget; one great-grandson, Eric; and two sisters, Blanche DeJong of Cherry Valley and Theodora Smith of Orwell.He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen, Luella and Margaret; and a brother, Charles Waid.Graveside Service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24th, at Brownville Cemetery in New Lyme, Ohio, with the Rev.
