Mr Harry Robert Parone

COLUMBIA - Funeral Mass for Harry Robert Parone, 86, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers in St. Peter�s Catholic Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Harry R. Parone Scholarship Fund C/O Spring Valley High School Education Foundation, 120 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, S.C. 29229. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 6 p.m. with visitation following until 9 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Parone, husband of the late Josephine Abbott Parone, passed away peacefully Monday, January 8, 2007. Known to most, simply as �Coach�, Harry Parone was born on June 10, 1920. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late Harry R. and Mary Zungola Parone. A graduate of St. Peter�s School and Bulkeley High School in Hartford, Conn., Coach Parone served his country proudly in the US Army from 1941-1945 and finished his education at the University of South Carolina. He married his beloved Josephine in 1945 and was devoted to her until her death in 2005. Coach Parone began his teaching career at Dentsville High School in 1951 and altogether served 50 years in Richland County as a coach, athletics director, administrator and advisor. He was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, friend and coach. Coach Parone positively impacted the lives of many young student athletes and coaches and Harry Parone Stadium stands as a testimony to his role in Columbia high school sports. Surviving are a brother, Edward R. Parone of Santa Fe, New Mexico; nieces, Janice A. Callahan of Rocky Hill, Conn., Lynne M. Ladue of Columbia; great nieces Terry Hudaly and Julie Rotureau of Columbia, Allison Ladue of Boston, Mass., Mary Sue Bultman-Rabon of Laurinburg, N.C.; great nephews, John Vincent Bultman of Fayetteville, Ga., Jeffrey DiBattisto of Charleston, and a host of family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Bernardin House, Cheryl Scott, Kristie Pressley, Mary Chapman, Tim Boulware and most especially Vivian Scott, for their loving care and unwavering support.
