Hazel KELLY Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Jan. 8, 2013.
Hazel Glover Kelly
1929 - 2013
The death of Hazel Kelly occurred at home on New Year's Day. "Kelly" was born to William and Rachel Hill in Randalstown, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, on October 9, 1929. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and four brothers. Left to remember are two nephews and one niece and their families in Northern Ireland and many friends there and in Canada. Nephew Richard Fulton of Belfast, his wife Barbara and their daughters Stephanie and Natalie came to Saskatoon to spend Christmas and the holidays with Kelly and her good friend of many years, Mary Richiger. Kelly came to Saskatoon in 1955 for a visit and, several years later, to stay. She spent 29 years at the university of Saskatchewan, most of them in the Extension Division where, as Program Administrator of part-time Degree Studies, she visited community colleges around the province on all kinds of roads and in all kinds of weather. She retired in 1988. Kelly will be remembered, too, by strangers who stopped in passing to compliment her as she worked almost every summer day in her beautiful garden of shrubs, trees and bright flowers surrounding her home on the corner of Temperance and Clarence. It will not be same. At Kelly's request, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home (244-5577).

How sad to read of Hazel's passing. I know that Kelly will be remembered by many in Saskatoon and the UofS. That is where I first met Kelly - we had another bond as well as working at the university - being fellow Irishmen. I know Mary that you will miss Kelly terribly and hope that your memories of her will sustain you in the months ahead. My thoughts are with you at this time.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Hazel. I recall the days when we worked at the University of Saskatchewan. I send my sincere condolences to the family and friends close to Hazel. May your memories of her help sustain you as you carry on in life.
