Helen (Higgins) Morse
ESSEX, N.Y. -- Helen "Nellie" Morse, 90, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the home of her daughter in Monroe, N.Y. She was born in Nashua, Mont., in 1917, where her parents, Michael "Willie" Higgins and Florence (Seymour) Higgins were homesteading. The family returned to Chateaugay, N.Y., around 1920 and farmed land on the Number Five Road. In 1938, Helen graduated from Plattsburgh Normal School. She married James R. Morse and they raised three children and ran a marina in Essex, N.Y. Helen was a third grade teacher at the Westport Central School. After retirement, she spent winters in Florida and summers in Essex, N.Y.
Helen was a wonderful cook, avid gardener and enjoyed needlework. Her great passion was shopping. Although she was a teacher, she was a compassionate nurse to her husband, father, sister, brother-in-law and brother in their times of sickness.
She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; four brothers; and a sister.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Warren Grasberger of Monroe, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marsha Morse of Willsboro, N.Y., and Carleton and Sandra Morse of Peru, N.Y. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog, Tess.
A graveside service will be held in Willsboro, N.Y., in July. Announcements will be made in the local papers.

Dear Lee, Jimmy, Carlton and families,
Mom (your Aunt Harriet) asked me to send her condolences. She was saddened to hear that your Mom has passed away. She remembers your parents' hospitality so well, when she arrived in 1946 as a French war bride. She and Dad stayed with your family while they painted the little upstairs apartment by the marina, until after Evelyn was born.
With loving memories,
Aunt Harriet Morse/ Mitchell

Hi Lee, Jimmy, Carlton and families,
I am saddened to hear of your Mom's death. I have fond memories of visiting your family, having lunch in her little diner, and playing hide and seek at the marina. Carefree days of childhood and happy memories.
With love,
Jo

My DEEPEST sympathy to the rest of my extended family in the loss of this wonderful woman. "Gram" Will be greatly missed by all, even those far away. She was a strong, independent and wise woman with a great heart. We can rest knowing she had a long and wonderful life and was loved by so many. She may be gone but will live on through all of us in what she has taught and shared with all of her friends and family.

Our sympathy to Jim, Marsha, Carlton, Sandy, and Lila. We just heard that Helen had passed away. I remember when she and Jim were first married, living in the apartment over the Marine Base, where Lila was born. Told Tony today. Helen was a great person! Tilly & Dick Close

"Aunt Helen" was my best friend, Mary's aunt. Mary and I would visit her in Florida during spring break back in the mid 1980's. She always treated me like family and was a warm, honest and caring individual. She truly made this world a better place to be in. I am sorry for your loss but know you have many many wonderful memories.
