The graveside service will be 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at Laurelwood Cemetery, with a service of worship to follow at 3 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Shelton P. Sanford III and the Rev. Bill McCutchen officiating.
Born in Rock Hill, Bays Moore was the son of the late Theodore Albertus and Lucy Bays Moore. He was a factory representative for the Columbus McKinnen Corp. for a period of 25 years and represented Southern Electric Service Co. of Charlotte, N.C., for many years. He graduated from Rock Hill High School and the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943, serving at the Camp Croft Training Center as an instructor, graduated from the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga., and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He shipped to the European Theater in 1945 and served under Gen. George Patton. He remained in the Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Moore was a member of the American Legion Post of Rock Hill and a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and Ruling Elder. Bays Moore was an avid golfer and a lover of big band music, and enjoyed both throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jane Everett Moore; a son, Herbert Bays Moore Jr. of Spartanburg; two daughters, Barbara Everett Tremblay of Clemmons, N.C., and Laura Mason Ballenger of Florence; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at Westminster Church.
