Herbert Robinson Obituary
He was born in January 1920 in Malden, Mass., and raised in Duluth, Minn. He attended college in Houghton, Mich., and joined the U.S. Army, where he became a Captain for Corp of Engineers in the Persian Gulf Command. He served prior to and during World War II.
He married his first wife, Jean Marie Dumont, in December 1944, and they had eight children.
On November 6, 1976, Robby married Betty Lou Richardson Pond, of Santa Barbara, and they moved to Arroyo Grande the same year.
Robby enjoyed a 60-year career in the construction industry as a superintendent, designer and estimator, and worked on projects from the East Coast to California. He volunteered his help with the construction of the homeless shelter in San Luis Obispo and was a tutor for non-English speakers in Arroyo Grande.
Robby enjoyed skiing, roller derby skating, boxing, swimming and deep-sea fishing. His interests included genealogy, archaeology, Far Eastern and religious history, foreign languages, singing, reading, acting, traveling, the Dodgers and visits with family.
He was a member of the Central Coast Scottish Society and the Military Order of the World Wars. In 2006, he received the coveted membership in the Mayflower Society.
Robby is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; children Neill Eugene, Julia Lee, Patricia Marie, Laura Ann, Mary Christine and Cathleen Claire; stepchildren Robyn Dianne, Wendy Kathleen, Dona Corinne and Glenda Colleen; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Muriel Engle; first wife, Jean Marie Dumont; and two children David Bruce and Susan Jean.
A memorial service honoring Robby's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Community Presbyterian Church, 990 Dolliver in Pismo Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, San Luis Obispo Unit, 1428 Phillips Lane, Suite 201, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
