PINK HILL | Hinton Douglas Turner, 73, of Pinewood Home Drive, Pink Hill, N.C., died Wednesday morning at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C. The son of Hinton and Mary Turner, Douglas grew up in Lenoir County. He attended Pink Hill High School and graduated from B.F. Grady in 1960, where he served as president of the FFA. Having grown up on a farm, Douglas developed a strong work ethic. He often recounted fond memories of discing with the family's G John Deere and working in the field. Douglas spent his adult life in the construction industry. As an unlimited commercial contractor, Douglas was involved in constructing large commercial construction projects up to the last year of his life. Douglas also enjoyed being a craftsman, creating beautiful pieces of woodwork. Many of his pieces included rocking chairs and finely crafted furniture. Douglas' skills and work ethic will live on in the lives of his children, his sons specializing in fine cabinetry, carpentry, residential and commercial construction, as well as in construction Code Enforcement. His daughters will carry on his legacy of hard work in the fields of Education and Dentistry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hinton Douglas Turner Library, which is established to commemorate his love of and thirst for knowledge. The library is established as part of Liberty Christian Academy, which was founded by his youngest daughter. Library donations may be sent to Liberty Center Ministries, the non-profit establishing the library: PO Box 98, Richlands, N.C. 28574. The family also appreciates donations made to The American Lung Association. Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, Hinton and Mary Turner of Deep Run. Neal and I and our family will miss Mr. Douglas more than he could know. He was more than a neighbor, he was family. I will miss him and Neal working on all their projects and locking themselves away in the shed working away. He never neglected to tell you he loved you every time you saw him. Our lives will be emptier looking over and not seeing him next door but we can rejoice knowing he is no longer in pain. Our condolences to the family, especially Mrs. Lynn. As our grandson Alex would say "Bye Mr. Duggus". Always in our hearts.

Dear Lynn, there are no words to express how sorry we are at Doug's passing. He was a very special man, with whom we enjoyed times in the pass. Memories which we shall always hold dear of times spent with the Turner family. May the "Peace" of our Heavenly Father bring you comfort and strengthen you in the days, weeks and months ahead. We will be in prayer for you and your family.
