Hugh McLennan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2011.

Hugh Elliott McLennan and his beloved dog, Jerry, died tragically in a car accident on February 23, 2011, in Port Angeles.

Hugh was born and raised in Port Angeles by his parents, Douglas and Cleo McLennan.

Doug and Cleo were old-timers in Port Angeles; they owned and operated the M&C Tavern, after Prohibition. It is now Odyssey Book Store.

After a stint in the Navy during World War II, Hugh returned to Port Angeles and worked on the pilot boats in the harbor. He then became a longshoreman with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 27 until his retirement around 1989.

Earlier in life, he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed sports and dancing, and loved a good card game.

He had two previous marriages, and in 1987, he married Dottie Coker. They divorced in 2001. He remained close to his stepchildren, grandchildren and extended family.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rod, wife, Pat, and niece, Pam, from Houston, Texas.

Hugh is survived by his two nephews, Hugh and Doug of Houston, Texas, and their wives and children; as well as his stepchildren, Rick and Eve, Randy and Byrd, Darren and Shannon Alderson, and Cindy Butler, all of Port Angeles; grandchildren, Robbie, Joe, Jessica, Ricky, Jonathan, Bailey and Brianna Alderson of Port Angeles; plus many cousins in Alberta, Canada.

At his request, there was just a private family service with military honors.
