Beloved husband of Joan Horowitz; father of Brett Horowitz; son of Shirley Stein Horowitz and the late Max Horowitz; brother of Sondra (Philip) Gefsky and Lou (Harold) Dunn; uncle of Lisa (Jason) Looman, Adam Gefsky, Rachel Dunn and Brandon (LeeAnn) Dunn; great-uncle of Jacob and Nathan Looman. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Monday at 1 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to Services (12 Noon - 1 p.m.) Interment Homewood Cemetery. Joan and Brett,
I'm still thinking a lot about Ira, and how I wish I could be there for my best pal, Brett. I have a lot of great memories of Ira, from little league baseball to Seven Springs, Pirate and Steeler games, and dinners in the Waterworks. Ira schlepped us all over, and always made us laugh. He had a voice I will never forget, and love for his friends and family that I can see has been passed on to Brett. I will miss him. Hope to be with you both soon.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of my old boss Ira. Working for him was such a pleasure. He always encouraged me to explore the world and enjoy life. Ira, thanks for changing my outlook on life and thanks the wonderful opportunities you made available for me. I am so glad to have known you and worked for you.

Today I heard the very sad news. My heart is heavy to learn about Ira's passing. I know my life was blessed to have been considered Ira's friend for almost 40yrs. May the memories of the good times shared help you though this difficult transition. My sincere sympathy to you both and to your extended family. Ira,
We bonded discussing our illnesses and supporting each other during the rough times. We had little in common yet forged a friendship based on mutual respect and honesty. I meant what I told you, Ira, that I enjoyed your company more than the activities we shared. I hope you believed me , because I meant every word. Thanks for the chats between poker hands, the laughs and Sondra's brisket (You have a wonderful family by the way). If I was tough on you at times , Im sorry. It was only because i lost my lifetiime friend to diabetes several years ago. Ill always remember and admire how you treated people ,,with
respect and genuine interest. Ill always miss that firm handshake and that smile .

I just found out about Ira's death, and am still in a state of shock. I considered Ira a real buddy, in fact I loved Ira. With all the medical problems he had, he took the time to call me when I was not doing so well. He was a true friend and I will greatly miss him. Rest in peace Ira.

I have very fond memories of Raleigh street and Ira. I am sorry I couldn't make the funeral, but please know you have my deepest sympathy. Ira will be missed by a lot of people. He really was a great person with an equally great heart.

Dearest Joan and Brett,
I am truly saddened over the sudden and tragic death of Ira. I have had the wonderful opportunity to get to know all 3 of you since June 2010. Every visit was complete with Ira's sense of humor, laughter and ability to change topics away from himself!!
