I was a patient of Dr. Kaufman in 1980. He was an excellent surgeon, and very understanding. He will be gravely missed.

Dr. Kaufman was my mentor.
I am an Ophthalmologist who was trained by Dr. Kaufman in the early 1980s at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset New York.
He was a brilliant man and an exceptional physician and surgeon.
He could quote the Ophthalmic literature along with Shakespeare simultaneously.
I never met a more brilliant physician in my life.
He could be intimidating in the face of his exceptionalism, not because of any effort on his part.
He was just a superstar.
His wife Dawn is a remarkable beauty.
They had a wonderful marriage and a beautiful family.
I am sorry to hear of his passing.
Very few have had a more full life.
I will never forget him.
May he Rest In Peace.
Amen.
Dr. Joseph Blanco M.D. F.A.C.S.

Please accept my deepest condolences to his family for Ira’s recent passing. I met Ira about 5 years ago when he moved into the Independent Living community. Ira was such a joy and we became friends because of our shared musical interests. He always invited me to come sing while he played the piano – such a talented and brilliant man! We performed together for several occasions- he will always be one of my favorite pianists. Ira and I spent many hours reviewing and discussing Cole Porter, the Gershwins and all the great jazz and ballad music. I spoke with him shortly before he passed and he was as usual buoyant and spirited, ready to plan our next performance. As a busy clinician, taking time to visit with Ira was truly a bright spot in my day. His humor, energy and kindness are missed.

Dear Jon, so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. What a guy, what a legend! After reading the obituary I can now see that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Love you, hugs and kisses.
