To the family and friends of Capt. Jack Phillip Smith,
On behalf of the Delta Golden Wings, the fraternal organization of retired Delta pilots, of which Possom' Smith was a member, I wish to extend to you the condolences and sympathies of our members at the passing of one of Delta Air lines oldest pilots.
The bond of friendship and respect from time shared in the cockpit as Delta pilots is an enduring one that transcends generations. His spirit will now be a companion to aviators through the ages.
Sincere Best Wishes,
Capt. James J. Hoogerwerf (ret.)

A fine pilot, true gentleman with a great sense of humor. He will be long remembered by those of us who had the opportunity to fly with and learn from him. I am so very sorry for the loss of an other one of Delta's best.
Sincerely,
Bob Sigler, Retired Pilot

Capt Jack was one of my favorite Dallas captains to fly with. Always a gentleman and leader ... and a damn good pilot. Now we have lost him but for us that remain he is a moving target. Lets see if we can fly as long and live a good life as long,
God bess and keep you Jack.
