Jacquelyn Richards Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 31 to Sep. 1, 2005.
COHOES After a 20-year courageous battle with cancer, Jacquelyn A. (Daly) Richards entered eternal life on August 29, 2005 at St. Peter's Community Hospice Inn. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., October 21, 1946 and moved to Rotterdam in 1955. She attended Mohonasen High School, served as a member of the color guard and graduated in 1964. She then served as a customer service representative for the Daly Insurance Agency, Herb Poller Agency and Scataub Agency. She managed the Park V Restaurant and nightclub and served as property manager for several area apartment communities, most recently at Riverwalk on the Hudson. She was predeceased by her father, John C. Daly, in 1990 and her mother, Anita E. Daly, in 1999. After her dad passed on from Lou Gehrig's disease, she became a tireless and enthusiastic fundraiser for St. Peter's Hospital ALS Regional Center. As volunteer coordinator of the ALS Memorial Open, she helped raise over the last 15 years, more than $400,000 for the center. Due to her personal battle with cancer, she most recently spent a great deal of time volunteering at Gilda's Club in Albany. She will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched, for her boundless energy, positive spirit and giving nature. She made every attempt to fulfill many of her lifelong dreams including hot air balloon rides, kayaking rapids, cross country skiing, attending the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and traveling both near and far. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Rumphrey of Linden, N.J.; one sister, Cynthia Cseh of Schenectady; two brothers, Patrick M. (Christine) Daly of Burnt Hills and William Scott (Cynthia) Daly of Rotterdam; nephews, Seaman Sean P. Daly, serving on the USS Nimitz in Iraq, Matthew J. Daly and Josh Cseh; nieces, Kathryn Daly, Morgan Cseh, Michele Cseh; great-nieces, Kelly and Zoe Daly and great-nephew, Connor Daly; and her granddoggie, Luna. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at East Glenville Community Church, 335 Saratoga Rd., Glenville. Burial will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Gilda's Club, 8 Wade Rd., Latham, NY 12110 or St. Peter's Hospital ALS Regional Center, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

I am very sorry for your loss, Steph. I wish I could have been there during this difficult time but I'm sure you know that I was deployed on the USS NIMITZ and could not leave my post. I will miss my Aunt Jackie. Love, Sean

Jackie is an inspiration and a friend. I am lucky to have been able to do the Gilda's grand opening news clip with her. We had a great time and it is something I will always remember. I will miss you.

My sympathy to Jackie's family. I met her years and years ago through a mutual friend. She was a very outgoing and positive person.

Jackie was a remarkable woman and friend who touched many lives including mine. Her strength and courage was unbelievable over the past 20 years. I have very fond memories of Jackie while I lived in Albany, we managed to keep in touch over the past 9 years I have been gone. I am so grateful I visited Albany a few weeks ago and spent time with her in the hospital. I will cheerish the memories from my life in Albany forever and forever remember Jackie. I know she is at peace now watching over all of us whose lives she touched. (Little Jack)

Stephanie and Family,

When I think back 20 years, I think of taking Jackie for her chemo treatments at St Peters. It's hard to believe she went through all this for so long! Jackie was the toughest fighter I knew, some of you will laugh at that statement, some will cry. She loved her family and friends!

God bless you all, your friend,

I met Jackie at her first visit to Gilda's Club. She is a courageous woman. For those of us, Survivors of cancer, Jackie will be remembered for her dignity and Courage. I wish her and her family peace in heart and mind.
