Jakob Redenbach Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2025.
Jakob (Jak) Gerold Philip Redenbach, 84, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away August 12, 2025, at his home in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Jak will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his integrity, enthusiasm for life, and gentle sense of humor. He was the focus of so much love.

Jak was born in Oliver, British Columbia on July 28, 1941. Throughout his childhood and high school years in Oliver he was very involved in athletics and student leadership. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Architecture and was a registered architect, and proud member of the AIBC, for over fifty years. Throughout his career he designed both residential and commercial properties and had a particular interest in mentoring student architects to navigate complicated professional issues.

A class act and sharp dresser, everything Jak did was meticulous, artistic and tasteful. He lived life thoughtfully and inquisitively and led by shining example. He loved sailing, hiking, gourmet picnics and travel.

Jak married the love of his life, Darlene in 1964, and together they enjoyed a life filled with adventures both big and small. Jak loved his time spent with Darlene and his family, especially while enjoying the beauty of nature. He had a particular ability to recognize the precious joy of small moments.

Together Jak and Darlene raised three children, Karoline, Katharine and Jason. Jak was a devoted father, always making time for his family, whether it was coaching soccer, hikes on Hollyburn Mountain, skiing on Grouse, or annual family vacations to the Okanagan. He was beloved "Grampa Jak" to his two grandchildren, Ashdyn and Jordan, who were blessed with his frequent presence at everything from trips to Disney World and Great Big Wolf Lodge to College graduations. All knew his quiet, steady encouragement and the occasional "right on" when we needed it most.

Jak is survived by his wife, Darlene, his children Karoline, Katharine, and Jason, his son-in-law Daniel, and his grandchildren, Ashdyn and Jordan, and his siblings Christine (Teenie), Frank and Alan and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Sophie and Philipp Redenbach, and his siblings Barb and Seig.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jak's memory to the ALS Society of BC or Alzheimer Society of BC.

Loved by all that knew him. He was the foundation of our family. We will miss him dearly.

Dad,
I miss you so much! But I also feel you here with me in everything I do. When I have a latte in the morning, I remember all the ones we shared. When I sit at the window seat in the library, I remember how much you liked that spot too. I look at my children and see you in them. I think of all the memories we have of you and how much you were a part of our lives. You will be dearly missed in all those future moments we wish you could share. But you will be with us, in our hearts, forever.

I had the honour of working with Jak for the last year and half and I cannot even describe how much joy, kindness and gratitude he brought to each session with me.
He was a man with a very big heart, remarkable integrity and incredible kindness and warmth.
Jak, thank you for your time with me at the studio. I am very grateful for your wisdom and positive impact on my life and everyone around you. You will never be forgotten.

Birthday celebrations and family reunions were always looked forward to as it meant catching up with family! We may not have lived in close proximity, but family is precious and always near to my heart! We miss you Uncle Jak!

My favorite photos with Uncle Jak. He seemed an effortless fashion conscious man, with a truly kind heart. My mother, Barbara, was the first born into the Philip Redenbach family. Uncle Jak was about 10 years younger than Barbara, my mother. Uncle Jak always remembered her birthday (phone call) and Christmas (parcel gift). I´m so grateful to have seen him in July, it had been nearly 10 years since last seeing him, after Mom´s passing and Uncle Sieg´s funeral that same year. I´m blessed to have been your first niece in the family. Love you, always! Photos not uploading

Dear Dad. My favorite guy in the whole world and my most cherished friend. It's heartbreaking to imagine the future without you here in our lives every day. Thank you for your unconditional love, your kindness, the gifts you've shared with us, beyond measure.
