James Darby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2025.
James Carl Darby, 59, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, in Webster, Texas. Born on January 31, 1966, in Pasadena, Texas, James lived a life marked by deep love for family, unwavering faith, and a passion for creativity and learning.

James was educated in Pasadena, where he completed his schooling before pursuing undergraduate studies at Houston Community College. Though illness ultimately prevented him from completing his degree, James had planned to dedicate his career to teaching special needs children-a reflection of his compassionate spirit and desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Though health challenges led to an early medical retirement, James never ceased to engage with the world around him. His interests were as varied as they were vibrant: reading voraciously across genres; immersing himself in sports; delving into ancestry research; and embracing the arts through acting and work in the film industry. A gifted writer and publisher with a particular love for horror and the paranormal, James found joy in conventions and Renaissance festivals alike. Music was another constant companion in his life's journey.

Above all else, James cherished time spent with family-especially their beloved grandsons Jackson and Oliver. His devotion to loved ones was evident in every facet of his life. He is survived by his devoted spouse Anita Keeling Darby; son Steven Yarbray; daughter-in-law Darian Yarbray; grandsons Jackson and Oliver; brother David Darby and sister-in-law Elizabeth Darby; sister-in-law Rebecca Keeling Finka and her husband Glenn Finka; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his mother Alta, father David, and brother Robert.

Faith played a central role throughout James's life. He believed deeply that as a couple it was their duty to model the way God would have them live-and they trusted that God would sustain them through all things. Even in passing, James's departure was described as gentle and easy-"the chains just gone"-a testament to the peace he carried within.

James lived each day fully and without regret. He loved deeply-especially his wife-and served both God and humanity with sincerity. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live authentically and love unconditionally.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 19, 2025, from 05:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Standing Ovation Theatre on El Camino Real. This will be a Formal Memorial Service.
