Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 19, 2024.
Springfield - The world became a brighter place on October 27, 1937, the day that James Gilbert DiGirolamo was born. Sadly, Jim passed on June 19, 2024, at the age of 86 after spending 70 years with his high school sweetheart, Janice Robinson. He will be sorely missed by family and countless others whose lives he touched as a teacher, mentor and coach in football, wrestling and gymnastics after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts In Education degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The sorrow of Jim's passing and a celebration of his life will be held on July 29, 2024, at 11am at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Janice DiGirolamo, Son Cappy DiGirolamo, daughter Jami Harman (Kent), Grandchildren Jason DiGirolamo, Maddison Harman (Casey Vaught) and Garrett Harman, Sister Gladys Sokolis, Brother Donald DiGirolamo (Jeannie) and his Nieces and Nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his Son Kipp DiGirolamo, Granddaughter Amanda DiGirolamo and Parents Gladstone and Catherine DiGirolamo.

Jim was a great Friend, we shared a lot especially since we both played football together in high school, I was really honored when he asked me to be his best man at his wedding to Janice it was a very special day for me also, we did not keep in touch as much as I would have liked, but I am sure he understood. RIP

Jim and Janice have been friends and fellow volunteers for Old Trails Historical Society for over 30 years. Jim was extremely knowledgeable about the maintenance of the historic Bacon Log Cabin! He willingly gave the gifts of his time and talents. He will be truly missed!

Deej was a first class teacher and coach. Always pleasant and willing to step in and help anyone and any time. I was fortunate to be both a student and later a colleague of his. RIP,

Coach D was a very soft-spoken guy but very knowledgeable about the game. All the coaches we had were important part of growing up. I hope he got back to KIrkwood in the last 10 years or so to see the new facilities. It is now Astroturf with lights, brand new fixed seating areas and other facilities plusfirst class weight room

RIP

Thank you Coach,

Bob Dickson
