James Rhodes Jones, age 80, was born on July 5th, 1943 to Marvin Victor Jones Sr. and Sadie Mae Hadley Jones in Jamesville, North Carolina. He went home to the Lord on October 8th, 2023 from complications after surgery and had a stroke. James (Jimmy, Jim, J.R.) married Wanda Jean Myhand Jones on December 18th, 1966 and they had three children, James Daryl Jones, Angelia Christi Jones Frierson and Karen Linna Jones Hensley, From Angelia and Karen’s marriages he had six grandchildren, John Thomas Currie Frierson, William Kristian and wife Jaspreet Hieb Frierson and Christi Elizabeth Frierson, Tyler Scott Sanchez, Spencer Cole Sanchez and wife Jadyn Bozart Sanchez and Ember Nicole Hensley.

Jim entered the USAF in 1963 where he served for 24 years. He worked as a Correction Officer at OK State Reformatory and Civil Service for a few years before retiring.

Jim’s first and most important love is for Jesus Christ. His whole purpose in life was to take care of his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, church family and ministries that spreads the gospel of salvation. He served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder at First Christian Church of Altus.

He knew no strangers. He talked to everyone and even if they didn’t know him it would be a full-blown conversation. You had to stand arm’s length during these conversations because even though he was a man with many words his hands were just as active as his mouth. He was the kind of man that invited strangers to Thanksgiving dinner. The expression he’s the kind of man that would give the shirt off of his back doesn’t begin to describe his kindness. His smile alone would brighten a room but then the jokes kicked in. There was always laughter either at his expense or ours. He will be dearly missed.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Marvin Jones, Sr. and Sadie Mae Jones; three brothers, Larry Jones, Joe Jones, and Marvin Jones, Jr. and a sister, Betty Owens.

Surviving family members also include Jim’s brother, Johnnie Jones and wife Sue; numerous nieces and nephews and many many friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
