James Dewey Overbey Jr.

Greensboro - James Dewey Overbey, Jr., 87 years old, passed away on November 7, 2017 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church on Friday, November 10, 2017 with Rev. Kelley Groce officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service at 1902 Madison Ave, Greensboro, NC.

James born in Greensboro, NC, on April 30, 1930 to the late James Dewey Overbey and Ruth Mays Overbey. He was a graduate of Grimsley High School and attended Elon University. He was a US Navy Veteran and served as a Naval Gunner on the Destroyer USS Miller.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church for over fifty years. And he worked for the Guilford County Tax Department for over 25 years.
James was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Noah Tucker Overbey. He is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Ann Johnson Overbey of the home; sons, James D. Overbey III and wife Mary Mullinix Overbey, and Kenneth Gray Overbey and wife Elizabeth Odom Overbey all of Greensboro, NC; grandson Gray Vance Overbey; granddaughters, Carlyle Elizabeth Overbey; Anna Jane Overbey; sister, Jean Overbey Farabee; and brother, Cecil Ellis Overbey.

Memorials may be sent to the Piedmont Land Conservancy 1515 W Cornwallis Drive # 205, Greensboro, NC 27408 in memory of Noah Tucker Overby "Poets Walk" Memorial Trail.
