James Rasnake Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 10, 2012.
JAMES HAMILTON RASNAKE, JR. died on Thursday February 9, 2012. He was born November 24, 1935, in Atlanta. Jim, affectionately known as "Snake", was a proud graduate of Grady High School and the University of Georgia. One of his main passions in life was Georgia Football and his times in Athens. Until 2011, Jim had not missed a home game in fifty years. He relished his college days at UGA, especially his time in the Chi Phi fraternity. Snake's fondest memories and most humorous anecdotes always revolved around his time on Lumpkin Street. Jim also dedicated himself to his career and competitive running. He spent forty two years as a stock broker at Merrill Lynch and valued all the great friendships he formed during his time there. After retirement, Jim had even more time to dedicate himself to running. He ran weekly into his early 70's, and always enjoyed time with his running club pals. Jim completed the Peachtree Road Race 25 times, in addition to hundreds of other races. Mr. Rasnake is survived by his daughters, Brooke Rasnake Lowry (Doug) of Charlotte, NC, and Robin Rasnake Thomas (Tim) of Dallas, TX and his granddaughter, Molly McKenzie Schnyder. Services will be held Monday, February 13, 2012, 10:30 am at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church located at 4393 Garmon Road. Due to construction, services cannot be held at Jim's beloved Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, Snake would appreciate your support of the Eta chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity at the University of Georgia. Online condolences may be made at hmpattersonspringnghill.com.

As the widow of Johnny (Fat Man) Hadley, I bid a fond farewell to Snake. Many happy moments were spent with him or just recalling stories from Grady and UGA times. That's probably what Johnny and Snake are doing now. My deepest sympathies to Brook, Robin and their families.

"All Hail"; Term used to greet believers on road to Emmaus after the Ressurection by Jesus.(means heavenly peace & health to all. This was what you ( Snake) meant to all you met and knew. Through Morningside grammar school, Grady high school, "Toran's Tigers" and after you were my most unforgettable friend. Also at Mt. Paran Church of Gd in the eighties, we never lost track, and especially now. Enjoy the Streets of Gold, the Saints of old and Jesus who validated my ticket and I'll be along after a while. Praise God forever, it was great being your friend and greater in Eternity!
Much Agape Love

I have only had the pleasure of knowing him since last year when he moved to the Renaissance, where my mother had recently moved. What a great guy! She will miss him, and my brother and sister and I will, too. To his daughters and granddaughter: I am so sorry for your loss.

I first met 'Snake' at Grady High School. I was younger and really looked up to this Kind and Wonderful Man. 'Snake' always smiled and had something good to say. He always was very helpful to the younger students. Many Great Memories of a Great Man. My Prayers are offered to the Rasnake Family.

It was always such a pleasure to see Snake's smiling face coming in Guffey's. Whether he wanted a new piece of clothing or was just stopping by to visit, I never saw him without a smile on his face. Snake will truly be missed.

I have many good memories of Jim. We worked together in Chi Phi alumni affairs (although I went to Emory, not his beloved UGA.) He was truly a great guy and was loved and respected by so many. He shall be missed.

Mr. Jim was an amazing man. I remember him running a morning race, going to a 1:00 Georgia game and racing again at 6:00. He was a good friend and a good person. I will miss him.

Jimmy:
I spoke by phone with him only last week. He asked about others we knew, and if they were doing well. He was my friend and I am blessed for having known him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Jim and I raced against each other for many years and he was one of the nicest guys one could ever know. He will be missed but we are sure he is running in heaven with many of our running friends who got there first.
