Janet Jaskula Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2025.
Janet Jaskula, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, died peacefully after an extended illness on August 4th 2025. She was born on March 9th 1951 in Chicago, IL, to Katheryn and John Jaskula.

Janet was an RN and an MSN, and worked in the medical profession her entire adult life. She started as a staff nurse at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, then moved to California, where she worked as a clinical nurse in pediatrics, ultimately specializing in pediatric nephrology.

She shared her expertise and love for her profession as clinical instructor and teacher of nursing and ethics at College of San Mateo and San Francisco State University. Janet was Clinical Specialist for the Pediatric Renal Department at University of California San Francisco and, before retirement, worked as a pediatric hospice nurse through Hospice by the Bay.

In her personal life, Janet was an avid knitter and puzzler, relished board games, and, before her illness, loved camping and the outdoors, playing pool, and playing IN the pool, particularly with her niece and nephew. A lifelong animal lover, she was always opening her home to cats in need of love, and she could often be found in the company of her family and friends.

Janet is survived by her sister Katy Hayes and husband, David; her niece Kaitlin Hayes; and her nephew, Tyler Dent Hayes, and his wife Sonya. Her family gives heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Ivy at Cathedral Hill and Alameda Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to Wings of Hope (Humanitarian Aviation), the National Center for LGBTQ Rights, or North Shore Animal League. A private celebration of life is planned.

I miss you buddy, every day. You have been a part of our family for 26 years, held my children after they were born, baked for us, loved on us, and knitted countless vests, hats, gloves, and scarves. I miss your laugh, your twinkly eyes, your texts with a bunch of emojis. Miss you, most of all. May you be free from suffering, free from pain, free from the body that limited you. May you be reunited with your dear fur babies, sitting somewhere in the light, watching endless baseball games. Love you, c

I was honored to trudge this grace filled road with Janet for many years.... Together we would share our triumphs and tears... all the while reminding each other that "we" were not running the show... but that our HP was in charge...Janet so loved her family.... And indeed she had a very special love for animals... I absolutely know that heaven and all its Angels are doing the happy dance having you there.. my friend...

I miss you so much, Aunty. You were so much more than an aunt to me. Thank you for everything you taught me and all the time spent laughing and puzzling and building shelves. I'll never forget you.

Ah, Janny ...
You are and will always be my sister, best friend and deeply missed.
The kids and I planted a memorial tree for you. I know how joyful that is for you. Prayers for the next steps on your journey. Thank you for the
love and laughter we shared - it will forever remain in my heart.
